Good stuff
You don't see much video help out there for cabinet or joystick building. Keep it up :applaud:

Love the Kiwi accent mate.

All jokes aside: fantastic video.  I'm sure many people will find it very useful, considering the huge amount of router-ralted questions around here lately.

Two things about the video that made me laugh:

1) "Safety first!", says the guy using a power-tool with a camera in one hand.   ;)
2) "Nice clean slot"  <---- I've gotta' dirty mind.

HA HA HA. That was my exact thought when I said that! Could have been one of those 'good times go bad' situations  :-\

You shouldn't remove the wood while slot cutting like in the video. It should be one continuous cut. I have to slot a top for a cocktail which can be tricky. I will film that today.

A nice clean slot is better than a dirty, dusty one  :o

I don't think I'd try that with out the guard in place and both hands.
You could end up with a slot in your favorite finger.
Try a tripod for the camera or a buddy. Just my 2 cents.
Cheers

Yeah, I was kinda thinking that, too. One handed routing is good way to win a quick trip to the ER. Everytime you hit the corner, I was expecting you to accidently go that extra inch and take a chunk of your thumb off. Seemed out of place after all of the "Safety First" comments...

You mean the kitsets?
I do have plans to make some kitset upright, prob will be the MS Pacman/Galaga cab because its a really nice looking cab and could take a vertical or horizontal screen and a heap of buttons if required.

Or the T-Molding?
I have built a Donkey Kong cabinet that needs slotting for T-Molding.
I might record that today and I will put the camera on a tripod  :P

Sorry for resurrecting this topic, but it's referenced from the wiki as a good source of information for slot cutting for T-Moldings but the youtube video does not longer exist. Does anyone know where I can find something similar to the video that was posted here?
Thank you.

because no one has responded, i will give a couple tips. no video

If your router is a plunge router and has a micro adjust knob. I like using my router in router table mode. This allows the router to stay in the same position when the plunge locking lever is released. Makes fine adjustments easier. Just remember the adjustment is backwards from the manual since the router is right side up.

Also it is very easy for the router to ride up when routing, especially around corners, so the bigger the base and heavier the router the better. I used my smaller 1-1/2 horse plunge with standard base and it did ride up in one place around a curved corner. Should have used my 3-1/4 with the table base, but no micro adjust on that router. Those bits cut really easy.

Also remember to turn your routers speed down, your bit should have recommended speeds.

Sorry for the thread necro, but noobies here for the first time still google this as a top hit.  There are many video's on youtube that cover this, here is one I found exceptionally useful.

He's going the wrong way while cutting the slot.  You'll want to go against the rotation of the blade.   It'll provide you more control and keep the router from running away from you.

Just cause it is on the internet doesn't make it correct...  ;)

Yep its a good video but Unstupid is right. You should go against the rotation to give you more control.. 8)

Looks like this thread is updated with new info every 2 years, and is very useful, so here's my bit;

He also gets the wrong up the cut in the video because he doesn't do the "indent it, flip it over, indent it again" trick to find the exact middle, the advice someone posted earlier on the first page :)  After reading this thread, I shook my head at multiple points on that video - that guy should read this thread!
