Why, MAME runs the games, the FE just launches it. So why would more games slow it down?

EDIT...
BTW, I posted a question a while back asking about DK. If you have any info I would love to read about it.
LINK to my thread about DK.

The answer is it doesn't.  Not sure what was meant by that.  He might mean that that the skins I design usually only have about 10 games on the screen at a time or less.  I don't like skins with a big long list of text at 8pt so you can't read it on an arcade monitor or tv.  ;)

I replied to your thread.

Font size is almost irrelevant when displaying on an arcade monitor IMO.  I say this because you can use low-resolution modes which display even the smallest fonts quite large on screen.  For example, personally I use 368x240 and can still use 7pt 'Small Fonts' and have 19 games listed  on-screen at once - the text is large and clear.

I agree with TV's using a higher resolution, for example using 640x480, then using larger fonts is more of a requirement.  Us fortunate Scart TV owners can get around this by using RGB and low-res tho  ;D

Surprised no one has mentioned 3DArcade - pretty neat eye candy IMHO with it's "immersive" arcade environments. Very flexible as well. Check it: http://3darcade.mameworld.net

Maybe you lost some translation in your edit, because I am quite confused by your statement. This thread and my comment was about Front ends. I have no idea why you brought MAME into the conversation.

Last time I tried Dragon King it took too long to scroll through a list of 2000 games. It's the front end that can become overwhelmed by too many games, MAME doesn't even notice if you have more than one game or not.

3DArcade takes eye candy to the extreme, would anyone consider walking around a 3D arcade with over 2000 games?

Don't get me wrong, Eye Candy is an enormously desirable feature - it's just something that *I* have to balance with my, personal, desire to have a list of thousands of games. At some point efficiency, both for finding and browsing, comes into conflict with some implementations of eye candy. Personal preference aside, the original poster wants eye candy!
