I'm wondering how an overclocked Core 2 Duo Extreme will handle MAME. I was reading an article and noticed that encoding a 7.4 GB DVD (CPU intensive application) went from about 4 HOURS on a P4 3.0 Ghz to 12 MINUTES on an 2.9 Extreme OCd to a rock-solid 3.6 on water cooling. Since the bottleneck in MAME for the newer games has always been the CPU, I'm wondering what this means for us. Now we just need someone with an extra 3 grand or so to test it out for us  |

Newegg has an Athlon 64 3400 2.4ghz and a free motherboard for $99 including shipping. http://promotions.newegg.com/AMD/AMD_mobo/index.html I can guarantee you will play any game out right now and the price is right. Hope this helps! |

Check out this board... ASRock 775Dual-VSTA http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813157092 Supports Socket T (LGA 775) Pentium 4 *and* Conroe chips Supports AGP *and* PCI-E Supports DDR *and* DDR2 A mighty interesting beast for $55.99 if you ask me. You could buy this board and a cheapie $50 Celeron D to get started, then upgrade later to a Conroe when the prices come down. |
