Staining and T-miolding soon?
« on: August 17, 2006, 03:31:37 pm »
Hey guys I am going to be staining all my pieces soon.  Maybe even start this weekend.  My question is should I stain the bottom of the base and even the base boards?  Just wondering.  I will be doing pretty much everything else both sides of every piece.  I am going to start sanding some pieces this weekend.  I would like to get the two big cabniet side pieces out of the way first.  I will be doing the staining inside when the 2 year old is asleep at night.  Another thing I need to ask is about slot cutting.

I am going to use a slot cutter bit on the router for some tmolding.  Here is my question.  I want the T-molding to go all the way around.  I will stop about four inches in on the bottom.  Here is my thing when I get down to the area that is going to be behind the control panel, and underneath the control panel.  Should I slot cut that out, so I will have T-molding under/behind the control panel box.  Or should I stop around the area where the control panel box is.  I don't want the box to sit uneven or anything like that.  You know what I am saying?

Thanks

You really don't need to stain the botton of the base or the base boards unless you want to.

I had this exact question come to mind when I cut the slot for the T-molding on my cabinet.  For my cabinet I did not cut a slot for the T-molding under or behind the control panel because I thought the control panel wouldn't sit right.

Slot the whole thing and then decide if you want it there or not when you put it in-better to have a slot in a hidden area that you don't use than to try and slot it after it is assembled because you decided you want it.

NightGod does your control panel sit right on the T-molding?

JON nice cab from what I am seeing.  Did you use Lucid's plans?

Is that some extra support cross beam under the monitor shelf.  NICE! I love the wood look!

Yep, I used Lusid's plans.

Actually I put the monitor shelf about one inch to high.  So in between the monitor shelf and the control panel there was just a little space that I covered up with an extra piece of wood.

I haven't put the T-molding in place yet, trying to decide if I want to run it under the CP or not =) But I have the cut there so I can go either way-if I decide not do it, you'll never know the slot is there because it will be hidden under the panel.
