Why yes, I can!
If you have the bread, of course go for one of the oscar spinners ( oscarcontrols.com ) but if you have your heart set on DIY here is a relavent thread:

assuming you want a 3" "real arcade" trackball on the cheap... you could get a refurbished imperial betson direct form imperial betson usually for 29.99 and hack a mouse to it. (or keep a close watch on ebay for one of the ones that already have ps/2 interface) Regardless of which arcade trackball (or where ) you hypothetically get, I highly recommend getting the mounting plate to make things easier (although a few people have gotten creative and mounted their trackball s without mounting plates - the plate makes it soo much easier)
Another option (although the mounting is a little trickier) is to find a crayola trackball sometimes called a KYE Kidsball in a closeout store or in the clearance section somewhere... (they have 3" balls and are a reasonable facisimile of an arcade trackball)
You could work a cheapo PC trackball into your panel - depending on how much you actually like/played trackball type games in the arcade will probably dictate how happy you'll be with that "half measure" ... for me (and others) it's mostly a matter of feel - Golden Tee PC version is just not the same with a regular trackball - need the arcade bulk and "whiz"...

I've checked the Imperial Betson website at www.betson.com and cannot find there any information on those refurbished trackball. Are they available on their website ? Where could those be found ?
UPDATE: Never mind, I found them finally. They are still at $29.99. One small missing information tought: do those trackball need any mounting plate ?

The question on the floor is:
"do those trackball need any mounting plate ?"
They don't "need" one if you are sufficiently crafty.... however for the rest of us it makes the most sense to use a mounting plate... as that's how it's done in the arcades (unless you have a metal control panel that is)
The imperial betson (mounting hole wise) is the same as the happs trackball ... In fact I use a happs mounting plate with my imperial betson refurb...
