Found a Cabinet on side of road...
« on: March 23, 2003, 07:09:33 pm »
Hello,
I found a Frogger cabinet on the side of the road where I live today :)
It seems to be in great shape and has all the components; monitor, pcb board, control panel...
It doesn't seem to work at the moment.  When I power it up I hear the monitor buzz but nothing seems to show up :(
I might do a few tests to see if I can pinpoint the problem.
If I still can't get it to work I might just convert it to a mame cab.
I was wondering if you could maybe provide me with some suggestions.
Thank you very much :D
I've taken the T-molding off, going to get a new roll.
The 4 way joystick and buttons are leaf switch and appear to be in very good condition.

Does it have the sideart, it that in good condition.  Looks like a little touchup paint and tmolding it would be good to go.

Personally I'd goto ebay and get replacement parts for frogger.

Edit:  Actually, it looks in great shape, like not much for scratches on coin door.  I definately would just watch ebay then.

I wouldn't mame a frogger myself....

For one thing it's one of the few unique looking cabs out there.  Nothing else uses that design.

Also it has a control panel that isn't well-suited for hacking as it's metal and un-ergonomic.

Lastly it's vertically oriented and although you could rotate it, you wouldn't to be able to use the sweet frogger bezel.

Frogger nos parts are still widely available.  Since you got it for free I would suggest trying to spend some cash restoring the cab instead of mameing it.

I'm not entirely sure this is an original frogger(could be wrong though).
The inspection sticker says frogger and doesn't seem to have been converted.
There is no sideart just the simulated wood grain like the lower front of cabinet.
You guys know of any websites that deal with troubleshooting these old monitors?
I'll give ebay a try see what I find :)

thanks

I know there is frogger sideart, I wonder if it was designed for conversions...

an original forgger cabinet has wood grain on the side

On the top portion (of the sides) it had a huge black decal with a frog on it, but many times the distros didn't put it on.

I have no doubt in my mind that it's an original frogger as it's a very distinctive shape, coin door, ect....

Holy crap, I wonder if it was being thrown away, or if you just hi-jacked someone's pickup! j/k well it's in damn good condition, so one thing that might be kinda cool to do would be to get a crappy p333mhz or something in there, and make it a 4-way dedicated mame cabinet, so you can play Frogger, Pac man, or anything else of that nature.
You can also go the restoration's path, and if you find out how to fix the monitor for under 50 bucks, sell it in the newspaper as a restored original Frogger cabinet in the Newspaper for 300, make yourself a nice wad of cash, and buy a larger empty cab to MAME.
If you're happy with a small CP like this, and don't mind spending the cash to get this thing rigged up as a MAME cabinet, then go for it.
  - GOOD FIND!

Frogger is a great classic - I would try to save it and just build your own MAME cab.  You could use the Frogger cab as the original and build a copy - then you'd have TWO arcade machines ;)

If you get it working you could always sell it and make a big profit, but at least it wouldn't be destroyed.

When a home appliance or computer stops working people don't throw them away, they have a repair man come in and fix them.

I don't understand why people seem to have a tendency to throw away perfectly good machines that generally have minor issues because they just stop working  ??? You could at least take them to a distributor and sell the thing.

Don't know where you're located but I have a NARC cabinet with a bad monitor in it I'd trade for the Frogger. I need a decent cabinet for a restoration. I'd rather see the NARC cabinet get Mamed than a Frogger cabinet. I am in Maryland.
