Is there a list of these somewhere? I have a cab I'm just now adding ePSXe to, and I don't want to have to go through and test the games to see if the analog stick is required. I know you can use a digital stick for the analog stick, but this doesn't make for fun gameplay, so I'm trying to avoid that. Maybe there is a list of PSX sidescrollers somewhere? Any PSX lists would help :) |

Technically all of them..... The dual shock was not standard issue for the playstation so all games had to also work with the d pad. Of course this made for bad analog control for those with the dual shock as it usually had to be limited to the left stick and bad digital control for the classic pad owners giving sony fans the worst of both worlds. :soapbox: This is why nearly every single ps1 game is crap. 3d games with digital controls. Yeah that was a good idea sony, almost as good as a $600 gaming system. Almost as good as a portable device that is capable of hi-res 3d graphics but doesn't have a proper means of analog control. Almost as good as insisting that all companies that wrote for the original plystation make 3d games, resulting in some of the worst butcherings of beloved 2d franchises (contra 3d, mega man 3d ect...) ;) Ok I'm done. Anyway, because of some stupid directive about pushing 3d games nearly every single ps1 game is 3d and therefore plays horribly on arcade controls. There are very few exceptions, so few that I can probably list them here. There are the laserdisc ports of some unemulated daphne games (ninja hayate and time gal). There is one decent 2d mega man game, I can't remember the name. They also made a decent Castlevania 2d game and that's about it. Any other 2d games on the psone already have their arcade counterparts emulated. |

Howard, there are a lot of decaffinated brands on the market that taste nearly as good as the real thing. ;D Vulcan, here are the PSX games that live on my cab: Castlevania: SOTN Crash Bandicoot 1, 2, 3 Spyro 1, 2 , 3 Soul Edge Tekken 2, 3 (no interest in 1) Tempest X (this is a must-have) Dead or Alive Jumping Flash Resident Evil 2 Wipeout 1, 2, 3 There are a few others but those are my favorites. I was disappointed that I couldn't get Bushido Blade to work on mine--not enough buttons to cover both pairs of shoulder buttons, which are needed for those games and not re-mappable. Soul Edge is the best fighter IMO Tempest X alone makes the PSX emulator worth setting up. |

I agree to some extent about 3d games with digital controls, but there are some cases where it works decent. Especially at the time it was released. Most (if not all) 32-bit systems at the time were getting into 3d games and only had digital controls. It had to happen, else we wouldn't have the analog controls now :) Thanks for the list JCKnife. So far on my cab I've got: Castlevania Chronicles Castlevania: SotN Mega Man X4, X5, X6 Fanal Fantasy Tactics Twisted Metal (all of em) Resident Evil Crash Bandicoot Abe's Odysee I think I'll be removing a few of them. Namely, twisted metal isn't too much fun with digital control...it's too jerky. I was just hoping I could avoid having to test the games on the cab, and remove if they weren't digital-friendly. Looks like I'll have to compile my own list. |

I'm rather frightened by anyone that admittedly enjoyed Crash or Spyro, it's kind of like admitting you liked the Bubsy series. |
