Quarter Queue?
Druin:
I know it would be kind of overkill and maybe even pointless, but what would you think of a MAME cabinet with a Quarter Queue feature just for kicks? This would be for those hard core arcade enthusiasts who make use of their coin doors for putting credits into MAME, you could set it for transparent mode (normal, insert a quarter and it goes to the game) or activate the Queue and it would take the quarter credits into a counter which you have to press a button to transfer into the game when you're ready...this way you can insert coins between games while in the front end, or insert coins while playing one game and use them in another game when you wish.....
I know it's kind of pointless but if you had the parts laying around to build such a feature, would you bother with that sort of idea?
Maybe this should have been a poll instead of a topic...hmm...

Sounds too close to a feature someone who wants to make money off of mame whould want. Not saying you want to do that, but it's very close to crossing the line; it just depends on where the machine is placed afterwards.
If you are the only one using it, no problems.
If you have a jar full of tokens for users to grab from, no problems.
But in a public or semipublic place, that's a no-no.
My $0.02.

The basement!

I don't see what the point would be... it would certainly not feel like a real arcade machine. As noted, its only purpose would be to assist in collecting money for whatever reason. It might be useful if you had children and used a limited amount of tokens to limit their playing time, but that's it...

People have asked here for something along these lines in the past. Either to limit children playing or to keep their friends from betting a game with more than a set number of credits.
I don't personally see the use for it. Not even sure what benefit it would provide in a money makin environment. It seems to me if you were going to run mame in an arcade setting you'd set it for one game and hide the fact that it was running off a pc.
