Old Primal Rage Cab conversion
« on: October 05, 2006, 04:58:57 pm »
Ok managed to get hold of an old Primal Rage cab which was running Tekken 3. I stripped out the wires, put in a JPAC, P4 1.8ghz machine, 80gb HD and packed it with all the latest 1.09 roms. I even got the Daphne roms and the PinMame roms, but I have not put them on there (lack of space) and I would not know how to get them to go anyway (future project).

So far, I have re-wired the cab and added a pause button (or as I like to call it "grab another beer" button). I also have a button to go into the config of mame when running a game so no keyboard or mouse is needed.

I am kinda new to this, but it's going well. I bought a couple of Act Labs USB light guns, but so far I only managed to get one of them working succesfully (more help needed).

I also put in a set of powered speakers then re-wired the old cab speakers so it would sound nice.

So far so good. I intend on re-doing the T-moulding (I bought 30ft of it in red) and changing the joysticks for some new ones.

Apart from that, it's a nice tidy cab for my first attempt at this. Really good fun.

Ya know...

I can sound really cool like I've done a lot of work too when I don't post any pictures of my "alleged" work.

 ;D

well... I was just poking at ya. If your gonna post here, your gonna have to get used to a little ribbing!  :)

What you want to do, while typing a message is select the additional options and upload your pictures there first. Do yourself a favor and make sure the pictures are small jpgs (small in file size)

To get both Act labs lightguns working you will need multiple mice input.  I believe if you use the command line version of AnalogMame+ you will be able to do this no problem.

Don't let these guys bother you, this is a great community and a lot of the "pot shots" are definently in good taste.   :laugh2:

I detect some crankyness in your post...  ;)

Ok, so down to business. The cab looks good! Could you include some wiring pictures? Seems as if you've put lots of effort into that.

What Front End did you end up going with? Last question... any plans to add a more buttons to make it more compatible with street fighter? In my neck of the woods, we talk trash in kick ass in Street Fighter.

Don't worry about it, just sending a little back your way for good measure, guess that makes us about even right?

Well no more buttons for now, you'll see why from the wiring pics. Basically I have run out of space on my Jpac as I kept all the original wiring in so that I can put my Tekken 3 board back in......I think I will do a complete rewire properly so that I can add the extra buttons and maybe slot a track ball in there as well.

My spec is:

P4 1.7ghz 700mb DDR
MameWah frontend
XP Pro
Wireless (with shared drives so that I can do basic updates from my other pc)
DVD drive

Thats it..............

here is the wiring pic:

[img=http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/1280/2005100610001wo9.th.jpg]

As you can see it's proper *gash* and messy, but it works and thats the main thing!

I need to buy another hard drive tomorrow, maybe another 80gb so that I can upload all the pinmame roms I have and all the daphne roms as I would like to play them from Mamewah as well.

Right onwards and upwards gentlemen, take a look at the pics and let me know.

Is there 3 buttons hidden under the CP? If so, what do they do?

As for the trackball.... gonna be a tight squeeze! But I think they are well worth it... If you like the older games:
Centipede
Crystal Castles
Missle Command

Or the newer games:
World Class Bowling
Golden Tee 2k
Shuffleshot

And it works decent with some shooting games:
Operation Wolf

The trackball gets the most use on my cabinet when people are over.

Really good fun.

It's as much fun to put one together as it is to play it!

Slinging poo at each other is part of the BYOAC experience. Don't take it personally, just sling it back. ;D

Yeah man, great to be here. Well the three buttons are as follows from left to right:

1st = Power on button for PC only. Also doubles up as a power off (funny that eh?).
2nd = Works as a TAB button for in game config/cheat activation.
3rd (and favorite) = Pause button or as I said before "grab another beer button"

Great, so that clears that one up. Still transfering all the roms over. Like, 12 DVD's of Mame, 3 DVD's of PinMame and 6 DVD's of Daphne. Need another HD !!!

Adios.

Oh and who needs a trackball for Operation Wolf when I have two, yes two (but only one working so far) Actlabs USB light guns??? Yeeee-Harrr!

Ok just added an old 40gb drive I had lying around. It was a choice really between a Maxtor and an old Desktar, so I chose the Maxtor.

Anyway, currently uploading the Dapne Roms, anyone know how to get them going via MameWah? I ain't got a clue!

I love the original artwork on the CP.  I take it that it doesn't have too many cigarette burns, scraps, and/or bruises?

Welcome.

Well only what you can see on the pics. Yeah the original stuff is nice.

It needs some stick on black plastic either side of the CP as it has been picked off. Probably by some snotty kid or whatever.

Apart from that, couple of cig burns on the t-moulding, but as I said, I have like 30 foot of the stuff in red and a tube of superglue, so it's a done deal.

Thanks for the support of the other people on here. Nice to have someone on my side.
