MS. PAC-MAN cabaret 97% Done
« on: September 24, 2006, 09:28:34 pm »
Well first of all i hope i don't get Flamed for this.

By that i mean altering a classic cabinet.

I have had this MS. PAC-MAN cabaret for awhile now.

So i figured i needed to start fixing her up.

The original wood grain laminate was pretty ratty looking,

Plus i never really cared for the wood laminate /understood why they put it on them anyway?

Basically i just painted it MS. PAC-MAN blue and added hot pink T- Molding,

Everything else is all original.

I did strip her all down to nothing,  Sanded, Primed, Painted the coin Door.

All the usual fun stuff.

I just had to post some pix. I was so damn excited i have gotten this far with it!

The things i have left to do are:  New artwork on the control panel, Paint the speaker grill,

New smoked plexi over the monitor.

Also i would like to add front and side art if possible?

The cabaret sides do look like something from an old mobile home.   :laugh2:

But, I personally like what you have done.  The cabinet looks much more inviting and if the original sides looked kinda beat up, might as well.

I'd say it looks a lot better now.
Let em flame!

Will be even better with the CP & side art added.

It's not bad.  Just find some type of sideart now and you're golden.  I approve.

Thanks guys!

I appreciate it!

CykoMF, i have been meaning to get back with you on BUCKETHEAD the musician.

But i have been busy as you can tell.

I will try to do that soon.

Yeah, hopefully i will be able to get the original sideart + front art printed out.

And make it fit on this cabinet somehow.

Again,

Thanks guys!

I think it looks great. Just curious though...

What does 3% of work look like?

LOL!

Just a rough figure,

Smoked Plexi , Paint Speaker grill , New CP artwork,  Side and front art .

Ok maybe 96% done ?

Might explain why the new album is so 'overdue'  ;) Lol!

I personally hate woodgrain.  It's ugly and generic.

IMHO you've done the cabinet a great service by using the original colours.  I always cringe when I read threads about people modifying original cabinets, but this is one rare instance where it's been done very well.  Congratulations.

Thanks so much!

That is exactly how i felt before i did it.

I would say, That the woodgrain very much suits the cocktail tables though.

But they would still look great the original cabinet colors too!

Here's the KLOV link to compare, for those that don't know what the original coloured cab looked like:
http://klov.com/images/M/cMs._Pac-Man.gif

Much prettier than the woodgrain versions IMHO.

Man, I love these cabinets.

I intended to make one of these, from scratch, as my first cab. But one day I was half asleep contemplating the spot in my room where the cab would be and a realised that the would grain and the general tall/thin aspect of the cab makes it look like a coffin (a cheap one!).

OK. Maybe that was the sleep talking, but that (and the limited size of the monitor I could fit in it) was enough for me to change my mind.

Anyway, yours looks amazing on a totally non-coffin way  .

Great job!
