I think leaf switches are everyone's button of choice, but they're difficult to come by.

spidermonkey:

Hard to come by  ???

1 Centsible amusements (has best prices)
2 Arcade Shop Amusements
3 Arcade Games.com
4 Gilchrist vending
5 Twobits.com
6 Bob Roberts  cheap prices but not many translucent color choices left.
7 Ebay arcade parts & accessories  (selling translucent and solid color ones in bunches) but I don't think they come with holders. (cheap ba$tards >:()

When purchasing these make sure you are getting the pal nuts AND the button holders.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. The leaf buttons do have the edge when it comes to feel. However they're a pain in that they are only designed to fit a particular thickness material (either metal or 3/4" wood).

Has anyone tried ordering them from Video Connection recently? They used to sell them really cheaply. However I've just had a look at their website and the leaf buttons are no longer listed. Also they've put the price of the 4 way leaf joysticks up to $29.95! This is really bad news if you're planning to build an "old school" panel.

Another source of leaf buttons (including the translucent ones) is Suzo (UK). However they're quite expensive.
