« on: June 12, 2006, 07:14:41 pm »
o.k. the discussion thread has gone inactive for ideas, so I'm putting a poll in place for this years token...

I have set it up for everybody to vote their top 3 favorites...

We have not ironed out if we are going for the top 2 or 1...

These are the placement for the slogans as far as I know unless there are objections, then we will be glad to hear and discuss them...

We need two winners, right?

(The editor in me makes me point out that "Build. Restore. Play." has a period after each word, but that's just me picking nits. Mmmm....nits...)

I wondered about the Build. Restore. Play. on the top of the slogan b token. In theory, we've got room for three slogans, I suppose.

With as many choices as there are in the first ballot, I would think a run-off with the top 4-5 would be really wise idea.

I'm with Santoro..  I'd actually like to see a way to have JUST ONE slogan..  But it's hard with these designs..  Too many slogans makes it seem..  I don't know..  cluttered..

Anyways, I'm all for 'No Cash Value'..  And maybe 'One Credit'..  But..

However, if 'Build. Restore. Play.' wins, I like it where it is.. Then 'No Cash Value' could go on the bottom, and another slogan (not 'All your blah blah blah' please) could go on the front  :)

Just my $0.02!!  :)

THANX!

I'm in agreement with the "no cash vale" on the top of the tails and the slogan going on the bottom of the tails.....

I still like the idea of "cocktails anyone?" going on the front side of the coin.........

Without the "No Cash Value", it just isn't a token.  Maybe it belongs on the bottom, though- leaving the "Build. Restore. Play" where it is.  Mock-ups?

I gotta admit - the "Build. Restore. Play." on token b looks perfect at the top of the coin (perhaps that's why we all missed it when figuring out where the slogans would go?)

This is going to be a tough decision - we're limited by the amount of space on token a, so perhaps "Good for 1 Credit" or "1 Credit"? That still leaves us plenty of room on the bottom of token b for a long slogan.

(Although if "All Your Game Are Belong to Us" wins, I doubt I'll be buying any tokens...way too modern and "of the moment" for a retro token, IMHO. :'()

I have an idea:

Make a limited edition run of "all your games are belongs to us" coins, with anyone who wants them pre-paying for their alotment so it can be ran. That way, the people who don't like it won't have to be subjected to it, and the people who truly like it can have it. ;D

It is just too controversial to have it on the main coin IMHO.

So much for a vote...

Whenever there is a consensus vote, there are winners and losers. Usually, there is a compromise that everyone doesn't quite like, but that's what happens when multiple people are involved. I say leave it the way it is and let the chips fall where they lay.

18 people so far voted for it - that's 26% of the voters. Let's just see what happens. I personally don't like some of the slogans, but I will accept what is voted on.

Havok,

The "All you games" slogan has become a galvanizing point - those who like it seem to REALLY like it, and those who don't REALLY don't.

Personally, I'm okay with any of the other slogans, but "All your games" really irks me for some reason. That's part of the problem here - the strength of the opinions for and against that particular slogan.

The vote will decide, of course. It's just that there are going to be upset people no matter how the vote turns out...

Uh... I'll be buying no matter what wins. I wasn't asking for any votes to be overturned (if Havok's comment was directed at me). I personally want the "one token" quote :)

However - this isn't a democracy. Santoro should go with whatever he thinks will have the most marketability, and use the voting here as a guide. If he wants to override the votes that's entirely his perogative I think.

My comments were not directed at any one person - sorry if I came off sounding like a jerk. I think that slogan sounds cool, even if not from a "quote" origin of a arcade\console game: I like the ideal that we've "got your game."

I'll be buying the tokens no matter what slogans are on it: I'm hooked, and you'll never see me anywhere near those places for my arcade "addiction!"

Yup. Has NO nostalgic undertones to it at all. I felt that the point of the love of all this 80's stuff was exactly that, memories of our kidhood.

Now in 20 years, I may vote on the All yer games... slogan, as it has aged and I have settled into the newness of it. ;)

Here's what I meant to post:

You know, this really ticks me off. I purposely don't get involved in discussions like this so as to not be perceived as trying to influence it, and the one time I do chime in with what is only my personal opinion I get dumped on for it.

This is entirely Santoro's show. He'll do whatever he deems fit. Anything I've said is only my opinion and should not be perceived as having any kind of official influence. If it wouldn't bring up cries of revisionism or censorship I'd just delete my comments altogether.

Feh.

Can I point out by the way that a runoff of the top 3 slogans would include the "All your games" slogan since it's in second place?

Nothing irritates me more than being accused of censorship...

You know, this really ticks me off. I purposely don't get involved in discussions like this so as to not be perceived as trying to influence it, and the one time I do chime in with what is only my personal opinion I get dumped on for it.

This isn't a slogan discussion thread where people are discussing which slogans they like and which ones they don't, this is a voting thread.  But even though this is a voting thread, there are some people (which now includes you, saint) who feel the need to continue their campaign against a single slogan.

If you ("you" being anybody, not just saint) weren't interested in influencing anybody, then why post your negative feelings about this particular slogan at all?    Why claim you won't buy any if that slogan wins?

If you ("you" being anybody, not just saint) just wanted to talk about how you felt about the sloganS, then why do you give no opinions about the others?

Because slogan-dicusssion isn't what you guys are interested in. You're intersted in making it very very clear that you do not want one particular slogan to win.

As I've said before, there are slogans that EVERYbody hates.  EVERYbody who casts a vote feels that some slogans are better than others.  But ONLY the anti "All Your Games" people feel the need to complain publicly about it.  Everybody else is content to just let the anonymous voting play out... but not you guys.

I'm not accusing you of censorship, saint.  I haven't seen you delete any posts in here (that I'm aware of).  I'm just calling a spade a spade.  As you said, you posted in this thread for one reason, to give your opinion.  But you obviously were only interested in sharing your opinion about one particular slogan.   Not one that you liked, not one that you hoped would win, not one that you voted for, but one you hope doesn't win.

I won't debate what your intentions were there, but you follow it up by suggesting that Santoro should determine the final token NOT based on which one might actually win the vote, but by it's marketability.

If you believe that that's what Santoro should do, then obviously Santoro should know if there's a particular slogan that people hate, right?  And what better way than for people to come in and state clearly that there's one slogan that they don't think should be on the token.  Surely Santoro should know what slogan will/might prevent people from buying any tokens at all and he should make his decision based on that.   So if people posting opinions about what slogan they hate isn't an attempt to influence something, then I'm not sure what is.

Like I said:

"The vote will decide, of course. It's just that there are going to be upset people no matter how the vote turns out..."

Looks like you've decided to get angry early...sorry we stomped on your  favorite, but I don't recall seeing any rules stating that I was not allowed to post my opinion in this thread...

This is supposed to be fun people.   :badmood:

Here is the deal.  In spirit I want this to be a a community effort.  I want to use voting to test what the community wants and likes.  And if the results are a token that has a good chance of selling enough that I break even at least, or make a little money hopefully, then it's cool.

The truth is this though.  I am putting my own cash on the line and if the resulting slogans from voting were "GAmiNg is kEwl" and "MAme iz the RoxXors" I would appeal to the group's better judgement and request other options, or simply chose not to risk my cash on such Lame tokens.

I have no problem debating the slogans in this poll.  I think it is healthy, and can cause no harm.  Voting is anonymous so no one is going to vote for appearances sake.

IMHO "All your game"... is too inside.  50% of the gamers who see it say "WTF?"   Every person who visits your house to play games will say "Dude the grammar on these tokens is effed up, did you import these from Japan or something?"   Regardless, I am 90% sure that I will reluctantly live with it if it wins.

If you have similar feelings about other slogans feel free to discuss it here as well.  I think open discussion on the pros and cons of candidate slogans is very constructive.

So.... putting all that aside, am I the only one who is worried that slogan may not fit in the available slots?  I honestly didn't expect it to place so I didn't mention it earlier.  If it is too crowded-looking we may need to pass it up anyway and make this all moot.

Nevermind - I see it fits up above.

Oh, and I am OK with 'No Cash Value' wherever, as long as it appears.
