| Rotating Monitor on X-Axis |
| (1/1) |

I'm still in the planning stages of my project, and one thing I just thought of is the idea of a rotating monitor. Now I know this is very common on the Y-Axis to accomodate vertical games. My thought is to rotate it on the X-Axis, basically changing the angle of the monitor. My two favorite games are SFII and GT, so I think I'm going to have a dedicated panel for GT to save my hands. One of the other things the GT cabs do to save your hands is to lay the monitor back with a higher degree angle. Now my question is, has anyone attempted this? Any experience or advice? I'm probably not going to start building the cab for about 8 months, hopefully a little sooner for the CPs. I just wanted to get some ideas. I've attached a photo to show what I mean. Please excuse the crudeness as this is just a visual mock-up to help people understand my ramblings. |

So if I understand correctly....... you just want to tilt it backwards a bit? (or forwards) Keeping it as a horizontal game setup..... correct? As far as that goes, tilt it to your preference and cabinet design. But I wouldn't see the need of a setup that allows you to change the angle at will. Only if you were to accomodate for vertical games. |

My thinking is that I would probably put it at a 15-20 degree angle, but I don't think this setup is good for light gun games, or 4-player games. I really like what mccoy178 has done and his idea for using his upper 2nd monitor for light gun games, but I'm thinking of using a 2-piece design and rotating the whole thing using some sort of hydraulic system. I know that it's probably a little impractical, but the challenge intrigues me. Maybe I'll get some graph paper and work on the design. |

This X axis mod would be good for people who would want to tilt there monitor back so they could reproduce the look of a real Asteroids Deluxe, Space invaders, Discs of Tron or any other arcade machine that had the forground graphics super in-posed in front of background artwork. Of course this would only work for one game, unless one were to make somekind of schrolling background image sheet. Also I wonder if this mod could be used for making one of those Virtua Cop type cabs that uses a mirror, so your not shooting so close to the monitor. |

There could be some use for it; although the more I think about it, the idea becomes less plausible. I'm not sure if it's worth the effort. My current idea for a design involves a system of pulleys and gas springs to do the rotating. Not exactly a great answer to the problem. |
