Ninendo's focus has always been about spending time to make quality games for their systems, and licensing other companies to make sure they dont release shite that makes their systems look bad. Sony's focus has always been world domination; to put console systems into everyones homes that can do billions things, as well as play games. It's just that nobody ever really used any of the other features because they weren't up to par with competing products. Now, with the PS3 underway, they're really throwing some serious moolah at it to try and make it 'hub of the household'; the only piece of electronic equipment you're ever going to need! (Bar a TV, but then again it might have that too.) Cha-ching $$$! I can see it now... its going to record dvd's, play mp3's, answer the phone, wake you up, do the dishes, feet the cat, take out the garbage and wipe your bum - ALL voice activated. But when little Johnny goes to play his burnt games from bali on the PS3 and it throws your garbage in the dishwasher, wakes you up at 3am, tells you to F-off and sticks the cat up your bum don't say I didn't warn ya! ;) |

"Now if Squaresoft starts making exclusive games for the Game Cube then maybe I'll consider getting one." -As far as I know, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicals is going to be exclusive. "if it weren't for Nintendo games on the Game Cube, would anybody even be buying the thing?" -Probably not nearly as many people. "Those new Metroid games kinda sucked" -Metroid prime only won game of the year by almost all the respected publications... But then again, it's personal preference. "The new Zelda looks kinda crappy too." -Don't knock it until you've tried it... I played the import the other day... There isn't a game out that looks as good as this one does. It plays like a dream too.. |

Nintendos focus has always been on quantity of games and trying to control the game market. They started slipping when they ignored the 16 bit game space and have been trying to make it up ever since then. |

Focusing on quantity rather than quality? Dunno. Sometimes. Maybe. Nintendo always seems to take longer than most to release games. They didn't give themselves much room to work with the 16bit storage issue, but they probably had less people selling pirate versions of their games - and thats why the Gamecube has specialized media also. Most sony games probably would have fit on a 16bit cartridge - minus the cinemas and music. Removing these 'distractions' forced nintendo to focus on the only other thing they really had left - the game. For it to compete in the game world something had to stand out, and quality gameplay was all they had and was usually the winning factor. (That and its bright colours attractive to small children.) Later on though, the quality of gameplay had risen across the board (well, generally) and nintendo was no longer attactive. As 'fate' would have it the console evolution would begin again, and the circle continues, with nintendo somehow still clinging to its top software houses. Maybe its all just clever marketing; to have your system really die out at the end so all your previous customers can now come and buy your new system! I never really played nor liked nintendo. The last console I bought was a Sony years ago. ;) |
