Killed my monitor, need advice

I killed my monitor tonight. I have a Japanese sit down cab, got less that a week ago. I was trying advancemame with medium res 24Khz as my Hitachi monitor does 15 and 24 khz and I wanted to compare the two modes. Even went through the JPAC to protect from the evil 31khz. HOWEVER, I think I forgot to first press the button on the monitor controls to go from 15 to 24khz before starting up advance mame config program. 2 seconds later poof, all gone, GAME OVER !  

Now all I get is a clicking sound that as best I can tell is coming off the switching power supply board near the flyback transformer (or some type of transformer).  No video AT ALL, even when turning the screen brightness to full. The guy I bought this from knows someone who can supposedly fix the monitor and board for about $50 (seems cheap to me).  My question is, is it even worth giving it to him, or is what I did so catastrophic that I might as well shell out another $300 to replace the entire cab, monitor and all ? Or in other words, is it even fixable ? No sense in wasting time if I truly destroyed it beyond all hope.

Any help very much appreciated in my moment of grief.

Phew !    The guy I bought it from (Jeff Tao goes by arcadestuff on Ebay) was kind enough to swap out this one with another monitor + video chassis for $60.  That was even after he heard how I blew the thing up by accident.

Anyway, looks like I blew out he H sync circuit on the video board (a 29 " Hitachi monitor + control board). Odd thing is that it had a button on the front labeled 15khz/24khz, but it was a myth. The thing was only capable of doing 15khz to begin with whether that button was pressed in or not.  Found another guy on the web who did the exact same thing as me on another Jaleco Pony with the same result: dead Pony.  This once again confirms this is not a user friendly hobby.

Anyone who is looking for a prebuilt cab really should do business with this guy. I haven't heard one bad story about him, but have heard alot of good ones.  I mean even if you just part it out for the 29" monitor and controllers, coin mech and all, $300 is a darn good price.  He's also got some of the tough to find Megalo 41" cabs for about $1200.

Now trying to figure out how to add a trackball, 4way and spinners with zero real estate left on the control panel.  Hmmm.......

Yeah I've emailed arcadestuff before when I was looking at his japanese sit at cabs.  Seemed like a good guy (this now confirms it  ).
