To be fully honestly I hate it. I dont see it as an arcade cabinet. I could be a very interseting concept but the monitor just out there and the button layout seems why to clutered. More isnt always better. I hate all in one CP and to me admin button are just horable unless you hide them like putting them were button 5 and 6 would go on 4 player cabinet. You do have potenal and I know this is going to be hard to read but you need to rethink this one.

Thanks for honesty dk1105, I'd have to agree with you on a couple of fronts. First off the clutter. There are a couple of corrections that are required. The extra admin buttons are going to be removed for the next cab since I'll be using an I-Pac4 and use the shift button. Also, there are a couple of tweeks to the cp. First off the far right joystick ended up being a little to close to the second one from the right. It is playable but gets in the way from time to time. I must have drawn 100's of little bubble cp diagrams and this was the best I could come up with considering the games I wanted to play (I blame Robotron mostly) and not have to resort to a rotating or a modular type cp. My theme also revolved around something we called the selfish center design. Considering I often play single player games, I wanted to be able to play in the center and not off to one side as many control panel setups force you to do. I may use SuperCade's cp approach and offload a few controls to a separate level but with a different layout. As for the monitor, it always bugged me a bit too just floating out there in mid air. My next project is going to adhere more to the traditional cab type machine. I'm currently debating whether to use an HG 9200 27" or 33" monitor or go for a widescreen display. I'd like to have the best of both worlds though and this is a tough decision seeing that widescreen will stretch the image but have a far better resolution. The other thing I dislike will be losing the rotation that the LCD offers.
And your right, it was hard to read. If only you could see the craftsmanship that went into what we considered a prototype (since we knew we'd be building a second one). The routing and shaping to the cp that is made from 2" thick maple alone is quite impressive. He also made the platform that holds the LCD out of metal, shaped and welded it himself. A plywood cab would have been simple and easy to make in comparison. But I do appreciate insightful criticism. It will only make the next project that much better.

Hate is a pretty strong word.
The panel is definitely cluttered, no doubt, but it's already built at this point.
I really like the way that its built though. It would be really cool to put this thing in a living room next to a huge TV like a showcase cab.

I agree.... This is your protoype right? You wouldn't be the first person to rebuild their first cabinet, or regret some of the design choices you made. I'm rebuilding my Old School cabinet now (look for it in project announcement soon). Your setup is close to a showcase cabinet now. I have some pics of an auction I went to in St. Louis in the main forum that shows a showcase frogger cabinet if you want to get some ideas.
As it is... it works. I'm sure it's fun to play. Ultimately, you have to remember why your building it. I can't make some of the master peices that these guys are making, but I can make a cabinet that suits my needs, and thats all you should be worried about doing to.
Can you tell me why players 3 and 4 have 7 buttons? I'm curious. Overall - it's an interesting design - I applaud your creativity. Did you design it out much?
