Midway Arcade Treasures 2 disk set $9.99....
« on: June 05, 2006, 04:27:52 pm »
....at Best Buy.

I just picked it up for the heck of it for Hydro Thunder (the same version as the Dreamcast) that should play just fine in your arcade cab!

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/driving/midwayarcadetreasures3/index.html

It doesn't seem to be listed on their website but that's a link to the gamespot review that says it sucks.

For $10.00 I know I'll be happy.

Seriously. Will it fit in my basement or what?

I just picked up the Arcade Treasures Deluxe (2 and 3, 4 discs total) for 10 bucks at ebgames.

The only bad thing about this set is the annoying CD Copy protection.  The CD has to be in the drive and it takes a good 30s to a minute to finally launch into the front end.

The Namco 50th anniversary collection I picked up is the same way.  Except this one does it whenever you launch a game from within their menu.  Very annoying, especially when trying to get them to run out of a frontEnd like I am :).

I've been picking up a lot of these collections to find the ones that can used in cabinets.  I hope to have a nice write up of all I have learned in the next few weeks.

In the case of these Midway arcade treasures, no.  I just had a nice conversation with Aaron Giles about this today.

This is old news to a lot of folks, but in case you've never heard of this, Ed:

If you copy the cd to a .nrg or .iso file with Nero or whatever your cd-copying program is, and then install a free program called Daemon Tools, you can run the games from the file on your hard drive instead of digging out the disc and then waiting for the CD-ROM drive.

The midway arcade treasures collection was sort of a disappointment to me due to the fact that it doesn't support analog controls.  Alot of the games included on the deluxe edition require analog controls to be played properly so without them, it's not near as fun.

As far as using daemon tools to play the image from your hard drive, I don't believe it is possible with star force protected discs, which these are.

In Midway Arcade Treasures Deluxe Edition you can launch games without the CD if you go to the midway folder on your harddrive and click on the games executable file . I think this only works for MAT 2 and not Mat 3 .
