YOu guys both make very good points.  I also believe you get what you pay for.  I guess now I just have to convince the wife.

I'm in Canada so the model numbers are different. I bought a JD L111, here is the link..,

I decided on this one cause it had a auto transmission. Some some with a MT, and I've heard that the MTs are a pain in the ass.

The property is about 1 1/2 acre that we're mowing.

And lets face it, if the JD can pull Jack's fat ass up hills with all that beer rocks in the back, its gotta be good.  ;)

If you do buy for big chain stores the Cub Cadets, and Toros both come off of MTDs assembly line. MTD is the manufacturer that makes Murray and such. Cub Cadet is not what it used to be...

I did a huge amount of research (just bought a 3 acre place)  and agree with Drew. Spend more dough and get a power center level mower. Then take care of it.

I ended up buying a Zero-turn Dixon for a song from my Mom's neighbor. New motor, transmission, belts, and blades. He has major OCD about caring for his stuff. The mower is like brand new. $1100. ;D ;D ;D

You might shop around a bit for a used one. You never know.

Once you buy a riding lawnmower you'll always look forward to mowing your lawn.
