Where does the wire attach to a coin mech to
« on: April 08, 2002, 11:47:05 pm »
register that a coin/token has been inserted?  A simple explanation of where the wire is supposed to be attached will work.  Thanks for any help.

It depends on what model coin mech you have.

for most "simple" mechs (i.e., not a timer, scanner, etc), the coin slot just has a switch on the bottom of chute.

Just run a ground wire to the COM of the switch, and the input wire to the N.O. contact of the switch. Do this for each chute.

It should wire up just like any other pushbutton would.

You dont.  All a standard coin mech does is sort valid coins from bad coins.  It drops the bad coins into the coin return box and the valid coins get dropped down a different chute.  After the valid coin leaves the mech it will fall on a stiff wire that is attached to a switch.  When the wire gets pushed down by the coin, it trips the switch.  It is this switch you wire to.  If you are using the I-PAC, wire a ground to the COM tab of the switch and the NO tab of the switch to the input of your choice on the I-PAC.  If you are using a keyboard hack, wire the COM tab to one side of the keyboard matrix and the NO tab to the other side of the matrix.  The coin switch is wired just like the switches on the buttons or the switches on the joysticks.

would it be possible to use different types of coins for credits.
i've been planning on something like this.

2x 1 kr. = 1 credit
1x 2 kr. = 1 credit
1x 5 kr. = 3 credits

how would it work with MAME.
Kr. are the coins here in Denmark :)

Okay, so if the coin mech itself doesn't have a switch for me to attach some "trip wire" to, then what kind of mechanism do I need to supplement the mechanism with so I can wire up my IPAC to it?

dude, it's just a switch.  :)

that's it...nothing complex about it.

You put a coin in the slot...the mech's job is to decide if the coin is good...if it's not, it gets rejected. If it's good, the coin falls out of the chute and trips the "credit" switch as it falls by.

The Ipac doesn't care what you wire to it as a "credit switch", as long as it is a N.O. switch w/ ground on the COMmon. It could be a pushbutton if you want...

Hi Zombie,

Here's a picture of my mech. I believe this is like something you want.
It is a Mars111 mechanism with a credit board attached. It takes 10p, 20p, 50p and
