New Console Controller
« on: March 01, 2003, 04:26:12 am »
Hey all,

Just wanted to announce that I completed my console arcade stick.  Very similar in style to M3TAL's, I created my own art, used Perfect 360s and 3rd party Playstation Dual Shock controllers (actually Electronic Boutique's branded pad for $5.99 - nice and easy pad to hack and provides an easy +5v power source).

If you are interested, let me know and I will post some pics to this thread later on today.

Thanks everyone for the help you gave.

Chuck

Here is a shot of the artwork.  I went with a similar theme of the Capcom and SNK figthers and also decided to go with the Capcom vs SNK 2 logo in the center middle.

Feel free to let me know what you think.  m3tal's look of the box was exactly what I was looking to do with my next project and I was inspried by his fabulous controller and art.

One of the things I did differently with the construction of the box was to inset the surface.  The sides of the box are routed and the surface, including Lexan, are flush with the sides.  I used black caulk to seal the gap and prevent drinks from spilling inside, etc.  So far it has worked very well.

Thanks for any feedback.

Chuck

Daaaamn that artwork looks nice!!!  Where'd you get those character pictures, they look like that unreleased game SNK vs CAPCOM artwork.  My only compliant would be the buttons are too far apart, especially for fighting games, but that's just me, cause I tried several layouts and one of em was bout that far apart, and my fingers complained a lot by the end of even 5 minutes of playing.
Ps: what did you use for the background picture?  I can't tell what it is, but it's very intense and cool looking.

WHAT THA   ???...

I dont think this on is "ULTIMATE LOOKING".
The "HONEST" opinion.I still like this..its different..
The box design is not that cool like the other onces..you know..like angle cuts and all.

I mean..these people looks err...different..still looks really professional though..good work I would say but didnt freak me out like the other times  ;D  ;D  ;D.
One of the main reason because the box itself is little TOO simple.you know, not all the freakish angle cuts Chuck usually do(man, everyone who dont know, check out his site).
the artwork still is an awsome piece !

I am guessing its the same backround as the mamestation 2 panel but somehow tweaked a little..am I right?  :)

Well it looks like I failed my ultimate goal of impressing SNAAAAKE as I have in the past...oh well  ;)

Yeah, it's the same background tweaked.

The character elements were from an artist that I discovered from one of the other boards I read.  Was impressed at his art and decided to use his work on this pad.

by the way...truly just joking on the comment about SNAAKE's feedback.  I respect people's opinions.  This artwork was really one more of paying tribute to someone else's fantastic art.

SNAAKE keep the truth coming, baby....we all like to hear all sides of our efforts...at least I do anyway..

I appreciate your feedback and agree that it has less umpfh with this art, but subtle was better in this case (at least for me)

Hey, do you gotta URL to the message board that guy's art is on?  I'd definitely like to see more.  I swear that the Iori art looks like KoF 2000 though, but maybe I'm just bein crazy.
