Usually, number of buttons isn't the way to go modular. You can play most single, double or triple button games just fine with a six button Street Fighter layout. What you can't do is have a perfect funtioning four way joystick, eight-way, spinners, yoke/steering wheel, etc. all on one panel comfortably. Search for modular in the project announcements section. It's entirely for aesthetics. I just don't like having extra buttons around that don't do anything. That said, I'm not looking for any absolute authenticity here either. I figure I can make my three button panel sort of arced and add on the single button (already placed lower) and have a decent Neogeo setup with a little fiddling in the input menu. I'll probably do a couple of extra two button panels that line up with the six button for console games, too. Just in case. |
