My New Cabinet...MORTAL KOMBAT 3
« on: February 27, 2006, 05:42:20 pm »
Here is my finished MORTAL KOMBAT 3 Cabinet Project. It is a mame project only instead of the traditional MAME look, I Built MK3 as an homage to my favorite game of all time. I included some pics. Hope you like. Let me know what you think. Thanks - Mike.

The sideart I got from classicarcadegrafix.com. All the control panel pieces, the overlay, the marquee, the front and side control panel box stickers and the bezel stickers all came in a MK3 restoration kit I got on e-bay.

The machine stayed this way for a while, then I got into MK2 pretty badly and just HAD to convert it to MK2. I had to drill out the run button through the metal MK2 control panel that I got NOS from e-bay and I added plexiglass cut to the size of the medallion sideart to keep it nice. Here are some pics. IT IS THE SAME MACHINE. This is a MAME cabinet that I built from scatch and I put version 1.0.2 on it and the full 8 DVD set of Roms. Can't play all of them because I have no trackball due to me wanting to make my mame cabinet look like a dedicated MK macine. I'll probably keep it this way for a while, but who knows.

NOT trying to sound negative, your machine looks very nice, very well built...   but isn't the side art on the MKII supposed to cover the whole side?  :)

You are right. It DOES, but you could either get the medallion side art OR the full side art. When I ordered them, I didn't have the measurements of my machine and just ordered what I knew would fit.

Nice work.  MK2 is a much better game, and IMHO better looking cab.

Very nicely done! I'm a big fan of MK2 and have a lot of memories playing it when I was growing up. I have a dedicated MK2 and it's lots of fun. Your cab looks very nice!   :)

wow...that's a great job on a scratch built cab.

That's too funny though that you "downgraded" your cab to MK2 (converting your own cab!).....sweet. Nice job.
Seriously. Will it fit in my basement or what?

Thanks everyone. I actually built the machine 2 inches taller than the stock dedicated cab because I am 6'3" and always had to bend over playing the actual one. So I built this one taller so I can stand up. Worked out great. I can take some more detailed pics if anyone wants to see the inside or is building a similar cab. Let me know. I ended up spending just over $2500 to build this cab including TWO mointors because my first one, the picture tube got crushed during shipment and UPS would not pay to replace it so I had to buy another one from Wells Gardner. That alone put me at around $1600. I also have a nintendo emulator with over 900 NES games, a SNES emulator with over 300 SNES games and various PC games on the machine as well. All total I have around 7500 games playable on various systems on the machine. I'll never say "There's nothing to do" ever again.

Looks awesome, but you REALLY need the full sideart, which is IMO one of the best looking sidearts in the history of arcade cabs... Raiden just looks too bad---I'm attempting to get by the auto-censor and should be beaten after I re-read the rules-- with the lighting coming off of his hand IMO.

Very nice!
Here is how I put a trackball in a custom CP for my MKII. Left the original untouched so I can just plug it back in. It was at tight squeeze but very playable.
