Starting my 23rd cab
« on: November 19, 2005, 02:06:34 pm »
First, here is the start of the project, a from-scratch cocktail cab, a duplicate of one I did before: http://www.mameworld.net/massive/Cabinet/House/House.html

and the original: http://www.mameworld.net/massive/Cabinet/Cabin/Cabin.html

You'd think it would get easier, but every time I start a new cabinet I want to try something new.

The 9 Commandments of Cab Building...so sayeth the Zakk.

I wish I had time for 23 cabs...8 is the limit for me...at least for now ;)

It doesn't matter if you win or lose....it's how you play the videogame.

What do you do with 22 cabs?

Sell them to friends? and just break even?

To profit you'd have to sell them for hella expensive.
... arcade builders could someday rule the world...currency would be reduced to quarters only, and wars would be settled

Yep, pretty much.  I do it for fun, not a business.  In fact, I think I've only sold one or maybe two to people I didn't know, and they were word-of-mouth.  I find it's as much fun-or more fun, making the cabs than just playing them, so this way I can keep making new ones.  I'll keep the one I'm finally satisfied with :)

I added the board cutting templates.  Just the rough cuts, but it's pretty simple from that point, round off the corners of the top, cut out a design for the sides, etc.

Thought someone might be interested as I got a couple of e-mails looking for "blueprints".  This is da best I gots!

While I was at it, I did up a rendering of the panels needed for the ultimate little mame cab.

Note: There are a ton of little angles on this puppy, but I think I'll make one after I'm done with this "house" cab.

This is the first time (I think), I've seen your cabs. Goddamit, they are sublime. I really must do a coktail for my next project. I'm actually thinking of selling my cab, now that I've seen these. It has inspired me

This done yet Zakk?  Come on, hurry it up.
Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

Heh, got a little sidetracked with family matters.  Oddly enough, the artwork was dropped off at the printer yesterday, so the ETA on completing this puppy is mid week.  I also ordered the bezel art for the 'beast' cab, since the kids have been playing it non stop since I upgraded the computer in it.  There is  a new cabinet on the near horizon too, a bit of a tribute theme.  Sorry for the procrastination ;)
