Rok:
Well, the only computer i have available to use in my cabinet is a laptop, so it cannot be upgraded.

16 MB vid card
512 RAM
30 gig hard drive

Will I be OK with this and be able to run most non-new games?

I had the exact same question months ago and here is what I did.   Grab a very fast new game w/ CHd's and try it.  On my machine I got 2 FPS's.  Ok... drop the CHD's and try a similiar game.   24 FPS.  Ok.. I can live with that.

If you want to REALLy know what will run.. grab a handfull of ROMS and give it a shot.  No guesswork involved.

TOK:
I have an older P3 800mhz laptop with MAME on it. With the new builds, I get the sound stutters that occur when a MAME machine is too slow. The Japanese shooting games like the Cave stuff bring it to it's knee's.

You're mostl likey going to have to run an older build (even .84 stutters a bit on my laptop) and you might have to stick with early 90's and back games.
