Eygo 27" and vertical raster games
« on: April 10, 2002, 12:55:26 pm »
So, all my games played fine in my MAME cab, I was using a Dell EV700 17" monitor and it worked great...  I switched in my Eygo 27" and now absolutley NO vertical raster games will run at all the screen just becomes garbled.

I am using an Asus 3400 TNT card, it is set at 640x480 @ 60Hz.  This is on a Win98SE machine with a P3 700, I am running the latest emuloader and using the mame.exe.

I read an earlier post where someone was having troubles with the Eygo, turning off hardware stretching doesn't seem to help my cause, I know it has to be something easy, I just am not seeing it.   All my horizontal games look great btw....

Thanks for the help, btw, the forums look great, I haven't been around for quite a while, but glad to be back.

I've never had a trouble...

but can you get them to work at 640x480 on a regular monitor?

I will post my mame.ini file tonight after testing it (haven't played a vector game in a while)

Good question, I had the monitor set at 1024x768, but within emulaoder I had all the settings to automatic for displaying the games.  As for vector games, they work fine for me as long as it is a horizontal game (ie. Asteroids).  But any game that is vertical, whether raster or vector, doesn't work at all, ie. Pac Man, Space Invaders, Ms. Pac, etc....

It obviously has some issue with displaying the vert games, but don't have a clue what.  You mame.ini post would be most appreciated though, thanks!

Get them working with a standard monitor first if you need.  The monitor probably isnt' your problem

btw, vertical games look great for me.  I'm using HWStretching, but using a Geforce2mx... and you need a good card to get hwstretching to work well.  I'm not sure if the TNT will be fast enought or look good enough at the end.

I used to use 320x200 and 320x240 for all games that ran native at those resolutions.  I added code to my frontend so that it would have a different mame setup string for every games original resolution.  Well, I couldn't tell the difference so I got rid of the feature (still in there... but hasn't been tested for ages.  Don't even remember the catchs to configure it :)

You might look at a cheap video card update if you can't use HWStretching

Really?  For the longest time, I was using an old Diamond Stealth 64 with 2 MB RAM with the monitor and everything looked great, I switched to the TNT with 16 MB just to give it some more oomph, I would have thought that would have been more than enough.  And thinking about it, my vertical games did work fine with both cards and the monitor.

Maybe switching the resolution down to 320x200 or 320x240 would fix things?

I caught your post on the mameworld forum too..

I'm using an EYGO 19inch monitor that only displays at 640x480 as well.

You probably missed the setting in the mame ini file to force that resolution. Once I changed that, I was golden.

Yep, you're absolutely right, I had it set to "automatic", once I set it to 640x480 it works great.  Duuuuuhhhhh.

Thanks for all the help guys!
