Adhesive backed CP overlays and MDF...?
somunny:
I'm wondering if anyone can tell me their experiences with applying adhesive backed control panel overlays to MDF. Do they stick well?
I'm asking because I'm considering whether I should just stick the overlay to the cp or sandwich it between the wood and some Lexan.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Steve
btw, the overlay is from mamemarquees.com if it makes a diff...

If you prime the mdf, that will go a long way. I also used super77 spray adhesive for added stickiness. Did you read the paperwork that came with it?

I always use a layer of Lexan or Clear PVC type material over the top. Even though you don't have to do it, it does protect the artwork and the finish. If you spent money on this CP overlay, why wear it out when you can replace the lexan in a few years time.

I used a white oil-based primer ( two coats) and let it dry for a week before applying the graphic overlay. It has not lifted at all. I also use the T-Molding that has the lip that graps wraps around the edge and slightly over the edge of the plexi-glass. It makes for a very nice finish.
