I've been looking for a supplier of Formica or some other hard wearing surface in the UK with no luck so far.

However on Saturday I came accross Fireplace surround in the Wicks DIY store chain.  It is 3mm thick and has two higly polished patterned surfaces so you can reverse it to the one you prefer.

It is available in two sizes.  One size which is in the shape of a fireplace and the other which is 300mm X 600mm X 3mm and costs

I went with the formica product.  Found it at Lowe's-4 x 8 sheet only 20.00.  I have two young daughters who really beat on the control panel, and after 2 years, not a scratch.  Vinyl doesn't sound as durable.  You will need a router though if you go with the formica.  Check out my site for photos.

Good Luck!
