This isn't directed at any FE, but rather what I see as a trend toward creating lists from search strings. I like a favorites list. Not all the games by Capcom or all the games from 1980. A list like: Pacman Donkey Kong Space Invaders Street Fighter 2 CE' Tempest Centipede Outrun Defender Joust QBert Star Wars Ikari Warriors Smash TV Area 51 You get the idea. What is the common search string for those games? There isn't one. That includes Atari, Williams, Capcom, Sega, etc. Those games are from 1979-199? Those games include Lightgun, trackball, rotary joysticks, 8-way joysticks, 4-way joysticks, dual 8-way joysticks, vertical monitor, horizontal monitor, and on-and-on. I would rather just tag the games I want to play often and those be the games that show up in my FAVORITES list. |

Like I said, it amazes me that more fe's don't do this. After looking into it, only Dk and 3darcade (to a limited degree) support advanced filtering techniques. I find this ironic considering they are the two oldesst fes on the board that are still being actively developed and both had said features from the beginning. It just goes to prove my old philosophy, making a new fe is useless unless it does something the existing fes can't do. Looks like a lot of up and comers have focused on a "purdy" layout before spending the several weeks requred to write a robust fe core that can actually make gamelists and support multiple emulators easily. Consider the previous motivation. Don't worry about how many flashy effects You can add until you can parse catvers and universally make masterlists. Don't worry about a cool 3d wheel unless you allow the users to skin yoru image elements fully. After you get the basics done THEN go back and work on the cool effects. Dk has been in hiding for several months. I've managed to spend nearly all of that time working on nify graphical stuff since I started with a sturdy core. Ok end rant...... I'll crawl back into my hobbit hole now. |

Hi, In Atomic you can do all what you want concerning GameList and Favorites. You can build game list by hand , or use advanced filtering technique. And Favorites list can be built on fly while the FE is running.( you play a game, you like it, you press a button and it goes to the favorite list). To use GameList in Atomic : -On the general tab, check "advanced options" -On the Advanced tab -check "use predefined gamelist" -check "let Atomic choose files names" - On the GAMELIST tab that appears -On the left list , you have the roms you own -on the right list , you have the gamelist You can to build your gamelist : -Select a game in the left list and press ">" to transfer it in the game list - or Select a category files in the combobox (ex :genre.ini) then select a category (ex : Driving) and click Transfert category button. All driving game will be transfered in the gamelist. -If you checked "only roms owned" it will transfert only roms you own in the game list while you transfert a caterogory. If not, all rom name are transfered but Atomic will display only the one you have. If you add a rom in your folder corresponding to the category Atomic will display it automatically without having to modify the gamelist. If you want build and exclude list, do the same thing but just click on the "save as exclude list" button. Concerning the FAVORITES , here is how it works : ---------------------------------------------------------------- On the "options" tab - check "Enable Favorite list" then when the Front end is running : -to put a game in the favorite list, just press "Player1 button 1" -To switch to the Favorite list (the normal list is replaced by the favorite one) press "Player1 button 3" -To go back to the normal list , press again "Player1 button 3" -To remove a game from the Favorite list "Player 1 button 2". Of course, if you don't like default key , you can define it using AtomicKeys.exe --- Quote ---Are you the developer of AtomicFE?? If you are and need any webspace or anything like that, I can try help you out in that area. --- End quote --- Yes, i'am . And Thanks for your proposition. For now, i have enough space and bandwith on the server i use. (it costs me a lot, but it is very powerfull :) ). |
