We can use this private forum to discuss the BYOAC wiki, how it looks, how it works, what we should do with it, etc...

Only invited users can see this forum. Please do not pass on information about the wiki until we go public.

Thanks!

Test.  I hadn't even noticed this pop up.  I figured it would go under the Private section.   ;D

OT - SirWoogie - you're probably the right person for me to ask -

I turned off E-mail notification of replies in my profile, but I still get E-mails.

I set my home page to http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=unreadreplies

For all the other forums, I get E-mails, and entries at the link above.

What I want is to stay subscribed to all the threads I'm currently following, but just have the home page update, not get E-mails.

Ideas??

I'm here.  The only way I can access this board is through the "quick jump" window that shows up at the bottom of a thread.  I don't see it at the top.

Edit:  Never mind, I see it from the HOME page.

Tiger-heli: can you move your info that was up at mameworld into the WIKI?  Even if it comes back up (mameworld) I think it would be awesome to have that info here.

Yeah, the menu isn't smart enough yet to show the boards you have access too. I plan to fix that up in a week or so.

It's listed at the bottom of the Forum Home Page too.

You still have it set to notify you in the profile. All three options have to be turned off, or set it to "Do Nothing at all"

Remember, the unread and unreadreplies work irrespective of the notification setting.

That's what I was missing, I didn't know that!

Quick question - if I turned all three options off, but found a thread I wanted to follow but not post in, could I click notify of replies and it would show up in unreadreplies, but not E-mail me???

I am fairly certain Mameworld will be back - might take a couple of weeks and it wouldn't break my heart if they dump ZTNET and went to a different host, but I don't pay the bills there so I can't make the decisions for them.

Re: moving my content - I'm not totally opposed to it, but I have the following comments:

The main pages I have that might be of interest would be:
Arcade Interfaces (the encoder roundup) - KeyWiz and I-PAC how-to's also.
Arcade Images Extreme (arcade game pics)
My half-done controller page section (and the poorly updated FAQ page).
The Johnny5 Tutorial
The Set49Mode Tutorial

Concerns:

There is a TON of content there, and it is in HTML format - with lots of images.  Not sure how well it would convert to WIKI format, nor what would be involved in doing it.

Don't know if Saint wants to host the bandwidth involved.

Don't know if the FAQ fits in well with the WIKI format.

On the one hand, it would be nice to be able to have others correct and update the info, OTOH, it makes two sites to maintain, and means I need to verify all changes are actually valid. . .

Could you provide brief descriptions/definitions on things like encoders, Johnny5 Viewer, etc. with a link?

TO EVERYONE:  is it okay to link outside of the WIKI or do all links need to link back to other WIKI entries?

It's okay (well at least it works) to link outside the WIKI.  Saint linked back to BYOAC and I linked to my tutorial in the Keyboard Hacks Wiki page.

I will add the info MarkRVP requested (if no one else beats me to it).  ;D

Link outside, link away :)  I asked SirWoogie to have all internal wiki links open in the same window, and anything that links away from the wiki will open in a new window. Other than that it's all fair game.

OH - and I know mameworld will be back as soon as they work out the dns issue, but if you ever need another host I have tons of bandwidth and room (wiki, non wiki, mirror, original site, whatever).  I don't want to try to take anything from mameworld and in fact would prefer *not* to have someone move from another host to here unless that original host goes away, as I always thought that was kind of rude/tacky to the original host. However, if the absence becomes prolonged and you want a temporary mirror or need any other space please don't hesitate to ask. :)

Yesterday I put a bunch of links to pages that don't exist yet on the main page. I'm not sure if that was a good idea or not, I just figured it might be a good nudge to get people adding content to some pages.

I added a little bit to the 'Arcade Cabinet 101' page. I pointed out the main parts of a cab, now it needs some fleshing out with links to the relevant parts of the wiki (when they exist).

Thanks, I've been working on my wiki-fu lately.

I added some content to the Joysticks page (a really simple description of how sticks work).

Yeah, I have to brush up on my wiki-fu as well. While I like some of the simplicity that wikitext offers, it's yet another markup language to learn. I tend to float between HTML and wikitext in submissions I have made.

I'll have to force myself to maintain the wikitext. This only really affects the public editor maintainability of submissions, so it's a good thing to adhere to.

I added a section on what is involved in connecting a PC to an existing functional arcade cabinet.

http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/What_Is_Involved_In_Connecting_a_PC_to_a_Functioning_Arcade_Cabinet

I found this a little confusing when I first started and understand all the excitment about the PC2Jamma cabinet or why you would even need a J-Pac.

Please read what I wrote and see if it makes sense.

Ack! Foiled again! They're still in my jacket pocket at work dammit! I've been meaning to ship those back to you for about 5 months now  :o
Seriously, sorry. You'll have them back to you sooner than later (next week).

Maybe.  :P

That's pure lazyness for you. To take a photo I'd have to take one of the buttons out of my pocket, like this...

 ;D

Incidentally, the rendering is from Oscar's Autocad library.

I'm not sure if on the buttons page we should have "These buttons are sold by Happ, Ultimarc, and GroovyGameGear."  Because there are more places to get buttons, like Bob Roberts, Suzo, etc...
