Yeah!!!! I got a sticky just for being helpful! :)   I've pretty-fied the links

Auction Game Sales: Their auction dates an locations
This website also has photos from past auctions which will give the first-timers some idea of what an auction is like.

GameRoom Magazine's calendar of coin-op shows, auctions & events

Super Auctions - Dates and Locations

US Amusement Auctions: Calendar of Events

And here's another link that auction goers might find useful

Auction Central - This site has listings of games and the prices they went for at a variety of auctions.  This will give you some idea of what you might pay at your local auction.

Oh, that's an easy answer.

You live in Boston, therefore there are none.

There are almost ZERO auctions EVER in the Boston area.

Yeah!  Why IS that, anyway?  Off the top of my head, in the last four years, I can think of three auctions.

Hey, it could be worse.  I live in Utah, and the closest auction I've ever seen is in Denver.  Then maybe california or texas are next.  I may have even seen one once in arizona.

So yeah, I've never been to one.  Don't complain about a 4 hour drive.  lol.

SuperAuction's story is that when they came up here the auction did so poorly that they won't do it again.

About 2 years ago there was an auction in Mesquite, AZ. Unfortunately it was the week before I got into arcades. I still hate myself to this day.

Well, jeeze, it was ONE auction, and they sold a bunch of the newer stuff from a arcade/restaurant.  What did they expect?

I was wondering the same thing.  Now that I have a 3-car garage and a decent basement, was hoping to attend the next auction in Indy..  But their website is down..?

Thanx.

Is anyone going to the upcoming auction in Milwaukee?  I am from the Chicago area and wanted to know if it was worth it to go?

I was also considering making the trip up to Milwaukee to check out the auction. I've never been to one and would like to check it out, but I'm a little low on funds right now so I'm not sure. There is another one up there in November, so if I don't make it, I'll probably go then.

I've thought about it, as well. I'm about 50/50 right now on going-will so how the funds are doing closer to the date.
$6.75 the hard way-one quarter at a time.

Well, I came, I saw, and I had a hotdog.  :dunno

Took the bike so as to avoid making any 'large' purchases. ;)

Saw one real nice Mame cab in the crowd, simple generic design, looked to be a good strong built cabnet but the crowd was quick to screw up the FE, (Mala?) leaving it at a DOS prompt spewing forth gibberish when they touched the unmarked 'mystery' controls.  :P  Wouldn't have minded picking up something like that and just finish up the configuration stuff, but, not for the price they sold it at!

Anyway, I achieved my objective, met up with a couple of semi-local folks to contact for parts and assorted stuffs.

Anyone else there?

OK, I won't tell you.  :laugh2:
There were a couple nice ones there, I don't know what their sale prices were as I left early.  One of them was really cool! HUGE screen and a two player bench type seat with a desk type control panel. Looked to be from Japan by the 100 yen marks on the coin slots.

That was the first auction I have ever attended.  Overall it was full of junk (in my opinion).  The only cab that I thought was decent enough to work with there (which I wasn't interested in doing) was a Trog cabinet that looked like it was in pretty good condition -- it went for $225.

Arcade and Amusement Auction in Maple Grove, MN This Saturday, October 14, 2006.  Web site has details.

Holy crap, that's tomorrow!!! I might need to make a change of plans...thanks for the info

That was the first auction I have ever attended.  Overall it was full of junk (in my opinion).  The only cab that I thought was decent enough to work with there (which I wasn't interested in doing) was a Trog cabinet that looked like it was in pretty good condition -- it went for $225.

Hey I probably saw you there! :)

It was my first auction as well, and I admit that I was pretty lost. There were a brazillion upright racing cabinets (pole positions and speed buggys), I was hoping I could get one for dirt cheap, but no luck...I ended up just buying a set of 5 speakers for 5 dollars to toy with.

I also had an interest in the Captain America and the Avengers 4p cab, as well as the X-men 4 player that were old favorites of mine. Not many real old classics though other than some beat up coctail cabs.

The Trog was a bit misleading though, It was really in a universal four player cabinet, but it sure looked like a similiar style cabinet, the buyer sure looked happy with his find, so thats what matters. The cabinet would make an excellent project cabinet, and the PCB and controls will grab at least 150 on ebay. (Trog is the only cabinet I can call myself an expert on.)

I hoping for better luck, and a bigger budget next auction.

Well, since no one else posted...  The Baltimore auction was great. MUCH bigger then the others I have been to. My friend rented a truck and bought like 10 games...including a nice Crystal Castles. I bought one game..an Atari Assault (one of my favorites) for $90.00 :)

After deguassing the monitor, it plays perfect. Now I just need to hunt down new joysticks for it (it has Happs fire-button joysticks-they play in it great, but I want originals!).

At the Costa Mesa SuperAuctions on 11/11, there was a guy with a big video camera recording everything.  The auctioneers said he was from the Discovery Channel.  Not sure if it's true, but if anyone hears anything about when this will air, let me know!

Milwaukee SuperAuctions Jan 20th, anyone else going this time?
I'm still trying for a showcase, or maybe a decent 25" cab, hopefully better pickings this year...

Same thing - no snow or volleyball tourney for my kid, and I'll be there.

This time of year the last 2 years, the auction was for crap.  Last year this time, they were done by the time I got there at 11:30, so I'm not holding out much hope for anything decent.

There's always the possibility of a good showing tho, so.... :dunno

Good luck! I saw 1 super nice showcase sell ridiculously cheap. $110 and was a working frogger! I gave up and eventually had to make one.

Hello all,
I am currently in Phoenix, Arizona and it looks like the closest auction to me is the SuperAuction in Orange County, California. I'm thinking of making a weekend trip out there with my pickup just to check out the auction. I'm just wondering if any of you have experience with this auction and would like to tell me if it's worth the 5-6 hour drive. I know it's hard to tell based on what happens to be there each year, and the subjective nature of what one person thinks is worth it based on anothers.

I'm just trying to get an overall feel for what it may be like. I'd be all over it if I had more time considering I have friends and family in the area, but this would simply be a turn around trip just for the auction. Any experiences you'd like to share?

Thanks,
John

Dunno when the next Detroit SA is (apparently not before March). You may want to keep a eye open over at CGCC.CA as many of the guys there head across the border for Michigan auctions:

Hope you folks find some good stuff, I'll be at the next one (whenever that is, nothing on the superauctions calendar yet)

There were several.  2 I'd say were decent.  Seemed like either Fred was running stuff through quicker or they skipped the hour period between viewing and the auction start.  Seemed like a lot of pretty decent prices.

They had several NICE and clean jukes that went for $250 or less (45's, which is my guess as to why they went so cheap.

All in all a fairly unspectacular auction.  I can't figure out why I keep going, but it's addicting ;D

Can anyone give a rundown of what to expect at the Super Auctions? Ray's summary of the auctions he has been to was great, but it sounds like Super Auctions run a bit differently. I'm considering going up to Milwaukee next weekend but want to know when to get there, how long we have to look at the machines, are there fees to get in, are there fees on top of the auction price, does the guy talk really fast? I would just like to hear a day in the life of someone who attended one. Anyone?

Usually there isn't a fee to get in but there may be a fee to register as a bidder and get your little sign.  There is an auction house commission on top of the price and there is also possibly sales tax.  Expect to pay at least 10% and maybe as much as 20% above what you bid.

You should have more than enough time to inspect the machines, usually a couple of hours.  The rules vary by auction as to how thoroughly they'll let you do it.  I'd say just try something and wait for them to make you stop.

Bring your own 50' grounded extension cord.  Unplug games to check for monitor burn.  Look inside if you can to make sure the thing isn't jury rigged to work for an hour.  Be quadruply careful with pins.

For the milwaukee one, there is $5 parking, enter at the NW gate, you'll see banners for a "pinball" auction

you can get there first thing, or wait till just before the auction part starts, but expect a wait to register if you aren't there too early..

I plan on going, but not purchasing this time (buying a house later this year, out of room for more cabinets  :) ), but let me kn ow if you are coming up, I'll buy ya a beer and show you around!

From Fred's message:  Inspection time is from 8-10.  After that, they will not allow you to turn on games, although they DO fire up the games prior to starting the bidding on 'em (if possible - dead game = dead game, although Fred will always grasp onto any glimmer of "it shot sparks out the ass end" as "worked earlier this morning" ;D

Parking is all you'll have to pay for, but if you get a jerk, they might not let you in if you decide to leave to go for a bacon sammitch for breffus.

When you get there, head over to the registration table to get your bidder number.  On the back of that, they will lay out the % they take from the buyer.  This is IN ADDITION to the amount your winning bid was.  For instance, let's say the % is 10%, and you win a $500 game.  You will have to pay $505 before you are allowed to remove the game from the premises.

If it's Fred, he only SOUNDS like he's talking fast.  You'll CONSTANTLY hear this phrase he uses as "filler":  Hey now, git 'er down now, git 'er down".  You'll pick up on this really quick - it's NOT as quick as you think once you get used to his pitch, but for your first one, it'll FEEL like it's going pretty quick.  If it's ROB (not often for Milwaukee), he wastes FAR less time and doesn't use the "auctioneer" type of calling.

DO NOT be the first one to bid.  Fred is SUPER ridiculous at what he starts prices at and almost ALWAYS takes it down within a few seconds, at which you'll start to see bids from people who don't have their heads up Uranus.  If there's no bid for more than 10 seconds (meaning Fred has said "who'll give me $_____ for it?" then you can feel reasonably safe that you're gonna have that item sold pretty quickly after that, so bid if you want it.

Bring an extension cord.  They'll have crap plugged in, and places to plug into, but you'll still want your own, just in case you wanna look at something that's not plugged in.

Shoot me a PM at PP and I'll give you my number.  Mebbe we can meet Radish somewhere and get some breffus - there's a pretty decent place just down the block, and that way we'll only need to take one car.  I've got 2 buddies coming with me as well (1 for certain, the other one is iffy right now), so if you find something, we'll have more than enough muscle to help you load up.

The auctions generally last till between 3-5, although it's ENTIRELY dependent on how much stuff there is.

So tempted to drive up to Milwaukee this weekend (from Chicago), but I really shouldn't.  I know I'd want to bid on something.  Unfortunately 1.  I have no way to transport the machine 2.  I have no where to store it until I buy a new house (soon though) 3.  I have zero experience.

It'd probably be a good learning experience though.  The wifey has given me permission for 2 arcade cabinets, 1 pin and 1 juke.  I've already built the juke, so its time to start looking at pins and arcade machines.

For instance, let's say the % is 10%, and you win a $500 game.  You will have to pay $505 before you are allowed to remove the game from the premises.

 :applaud:

Chad, I cannot figure out if you're clapping because you think it's a good deal, or if you're just secretly picking on Drew's math.   ;D

In any case, I think the correct math would be $550.   :(

Meh.

The math, in this case, doesn't need to be correct to understand the point.  If I had said he then had to pay $649, the fact that he needs to pay the winning bid price plus their % still is correct.

But my math, she is wrong indeed.  I shall remember to think more betterer next time.  Either that, or I'll now change my life goals to go into Engineering or Teaching.....but definitely not in Texas! ;D

What I found amusing is that it was an ambiguous typo... if he put in 550, that would have made it correct, but so would have inverting the 10.

Thanks for the info, guys. We're trying to finalize a sitter for the kids so both my wife and I can go. If no sitter, probably me and my sons will make the drive. I'll call you either way, Drewrethra. We can connect with Raddish too.

11 and 8. The 8 year old is really into the hobby and loves to help in any way possible. A nice restore project would be right up his alley for us to work on together.

My two year old almost convinced me to take home a kiddie helicopter ride and a Sega 18-Wheeler game last auction.  I have enough trouble talking *myself* out of taking home more games than I really should....

That would be my issue with the kids. They would want every one of the cabs, the weirder the better. And they would probably talk me into a lot of them too. Wife would =  :badmood:

It's a good lesson in picking and choosing which to buy and which to leave.  It's not an easy lesson but there are worse ways to learn that.

Bah, once again I can't make it to the auction.
I work on the weekends for the owner of an antique shop downtow for some under the table cash, and with all the rain we had this week, they developed a roof leak.
Looks like while you folks are at the auction, I'll be moving furniture and wet rugs around

OK, now that I officially missed it, how was it?

SWEET!  Cowbell won a Pink slot machine and lost out on a Star Wars pinball because his wife took her top off and he wouldn't join in to seal the deal (I'm kinda thankful for that, btw)....

Nah, bunches more stuff than normal, but not nearly the amount of pinball machines, FAR less jukes than normal (about half), but they had some scratch-off ticket redemption machines....lessee what I can remember:

First off, Rob was calling for as long as we were there (we both left somewhere in the 3:00 range, IIRC).  They were going to easily go until 7, and prolly didn't get out of there until 8 or later.

Slot machines - I'd say somewhere in the neighborhood of 40-50, every last one of them looked to be in decent shape.  They auctioned them off fairly weird.

Stand-up cabs - 4 complete end-to-end rows, one additional partial row.  The first row went for seemingly standard prices, the second row seemed to be dropping to somewhere around a third to half less than the first row.  Those 2 rows took from around 11:00 to 1:45-2:00, then they moved to the pinballs.

I'd say there were about 20 pinballs.  Prices seemed to be in the $1500-2000 range, although we both had to leave after the first 5-6 were auctioned off, so I don't know what the rest went for.

A metric crapload of driving games.  MANY many 2-4 player setups - a complete row of them.  We couldn't even stick around to see close to what those went for.

Dart machines - about 6-8 of 'em, there was only one dog of the bunch, but the rest all seemed to have been shopped - spiders replaced, scoring sections were C-L-E-A-N, everything seemed to be in good working order.  If I had to guess, I'd bet they went for $350+ and could have easily went for close to $500 based on past auctions.

There were 8 cocktails, IIRC, but they ALL seemed to have been treated like a red-headed stepchild in one area or another.  I didn't see many (any?) of them plugged in, but mebbe Cowbell did.

All in all, I TOTALLY wish I had more time today due to the huge increase in the number of stand-ups they had, and they had a Jungle King that I REALLY wanted to see what it sold for (or take home with me), but twas not to be.

Oh, and I dunno if you've seen 'em around Radish, but I don't recall EVER seeing a Simpson's Bowling there, but they had TWO there, which stuck out to me and is why I can remember 'em.  One sold for $375, the other for $425.  If I had any spare cash lying around, I may have taken a stab at one of 'em for that price.

They had a lot of machines they simply passed on since they weren't getting a decent starting bid.  I hadn't ever seen that before with Fred, so I dunno if there was a reserve not met, or if they knew the price they were looking to start at was ridiculously low and they were gonna run 'em off later, or what, but I personally witnessed 4 cabs they passed on.

Prices....meh, you're gonna have to check the newsgroups.  I was enjoying hanging out with Cowbell and his wife, and I was only keeping a vague tally on prices as they went on.  I know he got a Pole Position for $150 with an effed up monitor that a few fuses and a sledgehammer to the neck seemed to perk right up, and the other one he was looking at a few machines away went for $200.  Slot machines - 2-3 people started off at $250, and Rob gave them their choice of machine, then added a 2-for-1 deal after he had those bidders identified (and didn't open that deal up to anyone else.  The next round was $125 for your choice, and a bunch more folks jumped on 'em, including Cowbell - I think if he had waited one more round, his machine probably wouldn't have been available (it seemed to be in excellent shape and was a nice looking one also).  IIRC, they did one last round of $100 for choice of what was left, then auctioned off the rest in the order they were left.  No slot machine sold for less than $50 (and there were only 3-4 at that price), MANY (prolly 8-12) sold for $62.50, but IMO, those were a hit-or-miss proposition, another 4-5 sold for $75, and anything else sold for $100.  I've NEVER seen them run off the slot machines like this before, and I think they did it this way because of the sheer number of Stand-up cabs they had.

All in all, nice day to be at the auction.

Thanks for the update, well I guess it's just as well I missed it, the wife would have killed me for coming home with another 3 or more cabinets  :)
Were the slot machines actual slots, or the Pachislo skill stop machines?
Cheers!

Yeah, we missed you Radish. I had a great time at my first auction and it was a huge help to have Drew walk me through the way things work. And just for the record, the slot machine we bought was not pink, it had skulls and manly stuff on it. I merely pointed out the pink one as being cute and sexy.  ;)
The wife was all about the Pole Position and being the restoration genius I am ( :laugh2:) I figured I'd take a chance on one that wasn't working properly. Once I got it home I got it working in exactly the way Drew said. Try that sledgehammer to the neck trick, works at least 0% of the time.
We really wanted that Star Wars Episode I pin and the wifey was willing to do just about anything for it. No flashing, but she was trying hard for the $100 or $200 discount they were throwing around. If she did flash we would have had a free pin!
If I had more room in my van (which is usually parked down by the river) I would have wanted many more of the arcade cabs that went in the $100 or less range.
I also got something that not many other people have seen, a picture of Drew.  :dizzy:

heres the info:
http://www.ohiogas.info/

i think i read somewhere (man! i sure cant remember where...) that USAA is going to have... 150 machines there?

edit: saw it on eBay, coincidently listed from the guy I bought my empty centipede cabinet from!

from the cached eBay listing (was taken down, i assume because someone thought they were bidding on machines...)

"SUPER AUCTIONS WILL BE HOLDING AN AUCTION ON SATURDAY AT 10AM WITH 150 ARCADE GAMES!!!

THATS RIGHT, 150 ARCADE GAMES AT AUCTION ON SATURDAY MAY 5TH."

Went to the Indy auction today.  Had about 45 cabs 1 cocktail and about 15-20 pins.

Was only there till they sold half the games.  Defender went for around 700 as did a MAME machine.  The MAME really suprised me, was running Win98 with no real interface and was SLOW on some of the games. The cab was in good shape but a basic 2 stick 6 button setup.

Another useful link for auction prices here in the NE for USAmusement Auctions.

http://www.basementarcade.com/arcade/auction/index.html

He did not put up the results for the Cherry Hill, NJ auction from last Saturday, but I'm sure he will soon.

I think this would be one of the closest auctions to the original poster for Boston area. There is going to be another in Dec. They are not sure of the date or location yet. It will either be again in Cherry Hill, NJ or North NJ in Woodbridge.

Went to the Akron Pinball/Videogame/Gameroom show today.  The only decent deal I saw was an Op Thunderbolt CP complete w/ two working guns.  On top of that, if you weren't a big pin guy it was a waste of money.  Can you really call it a video game show if there are only 3 video games there (not counting the two mame machines this guy was trying to hock).  There were some nice Ms PacMan CP's (cocktail) for about $10 each.

I pretty much threw away my $12.  Oh well.  It was just going to a new copy of Rex Kwan Doe (on betamax) anyway...

*edit* I also got to check out some of the "Nice Carvings" offering @ the Gameroom Magazine booth.  Definitely everything that's advertised here and better.  Kudos.

In case anyone in the Des Moines area is interested the auction is April 19th and has moved to a new location.

Anyone have numbers from that NY auction?
That show is NOTHING like what you are reading!,...steer clear of those guys!,..they are shady CON-MEN..that shill bid everything!...ive recognized the phone number and said "OH OH"..they are located in long island in farmingdale, and its is a total wate of time,..what they do is bring thier junk conversions and whatnot around to whatever other locations and set up shop. (THINK -TRAVELING GYPSIE/CARNIVAL) ...its all the same ---Crapola- from thier L.I. place and they say its another warehouse they have (---smurf-poop---).. not to be trusted!...thier gumbah buddies are just looking for suckers and first time buyers!...if they were to get the slightest hint that you dont know what youre doing,..they will mark you like a target and jack up your bids so you will be paying through the nose!,...theres about eight to 12 guys all working together. probably mobbed up. (at least they look the part).. if you go,...check out the action from a distance, and youll spot all the shillers,..then youll thank me later.

I'm doing better, I made it through the last one with no successful bids. A sign of recovery, perhaps. Doubt it.

With the lead time now available,  Will take requests, do a pre-auction tour, and will bid for you if there are backup funds available quickly (like paypal or something) They have a 10% fee, $10 minimum. Sometimes you can end up with some 'nobody wants this' bargains, like my converted Asteroids Deluxe (sorry about that) and merit-trivia converted cocktail Galaxian (real sorry about that) that both had working monitors for $20 apiece, including fees..

I've spent less obtaining starters.. just make sure the ops are okay with you picking up their trash..  ;D
If you order a pizza, put 1 quarter in their Galaga and the pizza's done before you are, you might be a video game junkie.. if you offer to tweak the crt , definitely.

At the August Superauctions.com aucion in Mesquite (Dallas), TX they said there was an outside chance of having another auction in October. Keep an eye on their website just in case. They were going to "play it by ear"

Looking to potentially get a few people together for a trip to the auction in Baltimore (http://www.auctiongamesales.com/BALTIMORE,%20MD.htm) on October 25th.  Hoping to either just provide some help to each other getting things into each others trucks, or even helping each other haul stuff home.

Could arrange based on 'regions' so people could work together getting stuff home if interested.  I'm in Rockville.  Just hit me with a PM if anyone's up for it.

I am planning to attend the one in St. Louis. Its actually located in Belleville, IL. It is literally 5 mins away from me. My buddy nailed a SF2 champion edition for $75. I'm looking for an older cabinet to MAME, but want one w/ a larger control panel.

Anybody go the auction in Wheeling on Friday.  I planned on going to it I even requested the day off, but because of an impossible deadline I had to work and then got stuck working late.

How was it?  What did you get and for how much?

I went, alot of the video games were in rough shape. 2 Pac-man's, one had a wanky joystick and wierd sound, the other was in a Ms Pac cabaret, and the screen was offsize (you couldn't read the score). A Mr Do that kept resetting, a Turbo that worked part of the time (went for 5 bucks, as did a working sitdown one!), 3 Multicades that went for about 700-900 each, a 1941 that had sideways rolling video, a mini Mr Do that had screwed up video and a mini Time Pilot with the side laminate peeling off. Some pinballs, most of the newer ones went betwenn 1000-2500, depending on how recent and their condition. I didn't buy anything, as I'm not in the market (there weren't any Tron's there ;D )

Thanks, A buddy of mine went.  We planned on going together.  He wasn't in the market for a game but if they were cheap he'd pick something up.  He said there was a decent Road Blasters, but there were a lot of people from the pinball expo that probably wouldn't be at an auction.  He stayed for the first few items and said people were way over bidding, he didn't want to wait around for hours on a Friday night just to see the game he wanted go for twice what it was really worth.

I was hoping for an Area 51 or some other shooting game.  He said there were a couple, but they were pretty beat up.

I'll be there as well - I live about 10 minutes away in Fairview Heights, IL.  I hope they have better stuff than they had at the last one, although the showcase cabinets were going pretty cheap.  I'm not really looking for anything in particular other than maybe a Megatouch but if something goes cheap I might pounce on it (depending on the game of course).

So did you manage to pick anything up?  There were some pretty good deals to be had I think.  I picked up a itouch5 countertop for $230.  There were some good deals to be had on pinball machines imo.  I was wondering if you went, how much the driving cabs went for?

Michael Jacksons Arcade games are up for auction.  Not the Sega game he appeared in but the actual ones he owned at Neverland Ranch.  Look at the catalogs listed as Session V and VI.

I'm pretty excited for the Super Auctions auction on May 2nd in Sacramento.  I've never been to an arcade auction and really don't know what to expect.  I am looking for a Punch Out/Super Punch Out, Donkey Kong 1,2, or 3, Super Off Road, preferably a Pacman standup that needs some work, and a Lucky 'N' Wild.  My main want is a Punch Out machine, can anyone tell me from their experiences at auction the chances I find one or the other games I'm looking for.  And how much I should expect to pay for a working, decent shape game?  Thanks

I have been to several in St Louis. It's a different part of the world, so I'm not sure if our prices will be the same. I went to one in November and it was one of the bigger ones I have been to. Probably 150 arcades, 40 pinballs, 50 bartop games, 20 jukes, other misc. The last one in early April was putrid. Maybe a third of the size with as many or more bidders. In November, there were some retty nice bargains, not in April. For working dedicated classic cabinets, you're looking at anywhere from $100 to $500, depending on condition/title. I have not seen a Punchout in our area. I have seen several Pacman cabinets that need work. They usually go for around $200-$250 give or take, more if they are nice. I have seen a couple of 3 player Offroads. If memory serves, one of the gas pedal controls were not working on the last one and I think it went for under $300. It was in pretty good shape.
It's all a matter of supply and demand at these things. If there are a lot of machines, better deals are to be had. BTW, there is a guy on CL in STL that is selling  Pac and Ms Pac cabinets (not working). Not sure what you are looking for, but might be worth shipping. Search 'arcade' in CL STL and he used all caps and is loacated in Madison. :burgerking:
You probably remember me from such films as `The Revenge of Abe Lincoln' and `The Wackiest Covered Wagon in the West'

I went to this auction in Orange county California on May 2nd because i didnt feel like driving 9 hours to Sac. and that's where I heard about this website. They had about 150 arcade games, along with pinball, ticket redemption and bulk vending stuff. I believe they are having one again on June 13th. It was located in Anaheim. If anyone wants any info I will be going over there in the next day or 2 to verify the next auction and get an event flier.  I will be checking this thread daily.

they had alot of mid to late 80's arcade games and then it jumped to more modern stuff like euro cart and a bunch of the fighting games like capcom vs street fighter 1 and 2 and the like.....most all was in good condition and everything worked...they had a nice assortment of pinball machines also.

Do you run this auction?

Anyone going to the September 12, 2009 auction at Starburst/Paladium Store in Toronto?  I am thinking of going by and kicking some tires.  I also want to check out the pre-auction trading in the parking lot.

Looks like folks here in Ontario will have another auction source shortly -- the guys putting together the arcade museum (who now have premises) will be auctioning off 100 or so vids, pins, etc on 26Sep2009 and plan on doing it monthly.

Michael Jacksons Arcade games are up for auction.  Not the Sega game he appeared in but the actual ones he owned at Neverland Ranch.  Look at the catalogs listed as Session V and VI.

http://www.juliensauctions.com/auctions/2009/michael-jackson/catalog-list.html

Own a creepy piece of history!

I know this is old but he had some cool stuff. I wish i could had hung out with him.

@Haunton

You going to post a list of items like your last auction? http://captainsauction.wordpress.com/2010/02/

Also, (haven't been to one yet) do these items have reserves, start at specific bids? Is this a silent auction, or standard?

Thanks!

kronic,
As we get closer to the auction and have a better idea of what will be in inventory I will post a listing, no worries.
The auction is standard and very few, if any, items have reserves. You can read about how the auction works at the following url: http://captainsauction.wordpress.com/buyers-sellers-terms/
If you have any further questions go ahead and call me at : 714-701-9486.

I have been to this in the past, usually lots of arcades from mid 80's to mid 90's. Some pinball, amusement, jukebox, bar tapletop, and other machines. I'm very broke these days, so I don't know if I will go.  :-\

Minnesota Operators of Music and Amusements (MOMA) Public Auction
Saturday, October 30th, 10:30 AM

I was there and was nothing like it was years ago... there was only one cocktail (small screen, single coin slot, rusty legs and glass was bad), one pinball (that they broke the upper and lower glass on), maybe half a dozen jukes, 99% of the cabinets were game boards you couldn't pay me to take.  I did recognize some classic cabinets that had been converted YEARS ago:  Tron, Ms Pac, Galaga, Battlezone, & a Millipede.  IMO, prices were good if you were looking for a newer game for a route, too high for restoration/home use.  99% were in pretty rough shape.

Thanks for letting me know...sorry you didn't have better luck. Thats really too bad. I was there about 3 or 4 years ago. I really was wishing I had more pocket money when I went, since there were quite a few items of interest.

Thanks for letting me know, I guess I will keep that in mind for the future MOMA auctions.

Oh, that's an easy answer.

You live in Boston, therefore there are none.

There are almost ZERO auctions EVER in the Boston area.

i find that hard to believe. Bostons a huge place. try finding one in Montgomery, Al.

this is a good place to find cool stuff though if you just ask around, or look in the local paper. their are some local operators who sell their old stuff to the home market and then usually dont want to be bothered when it stops working, so it just ends up in the local papers for a lowball price.

im actually glad theirs no auctions here, because it would drive up the price of the old stuff that i do find here.

im currently working on getting a $100.00 golden axe cabinet that just suddenly quit working one day.

no sound, no picture, screen blinks and gets a tad brighter when powered on. like what would happen if you turned a monitor or tv on with no incoming video source.

answer? bad pcb and/or power supply. monitor is still good. SCORE.

i will let you know how it goes.

There are almost ZERO auctions EVER in the Boston area.

Yeah!  Why IS that, anyway?  Off the top of my head, in the last four years, I can think of three auctions.

What's your point, mvsfan?  For years there were no auctions in this area.

Try AuctionZip.com. You just have to search regularly. There's a guy locally here who posts to Craigslist like every few weeks "Looking for old arcade cabs... etc."

Anyone attend the Milwaulkee, WI or Ammon, ID auctions over the weekend and want to brag about their purchase? I am curious what the going auction rates were for some of the cabs.

Anyone know of an auction in the St. Louis area tomorrow 10/8?  I had a reminder on my outlook calendar for some reason but a google search comes up with no news?

For the life of me I cant remember what prompted me to add this event to my calendar.

For those in the Dallas area - Guy picked up a jukebox from me a few days ago, and we were talking shop.  He mentioned that the old Dave and Buster's in Dallas was auctioning their arcade equipment.  They recently moved across the highway to a new "flagship" location, complete with all new hardware, and were going to auction off all hardware from the previous location.  I can't find any info about this.  Has anyone else heard anything about it?  I've had great luck with the local auctions in recent months (actually picking up my Outrun 2 on Monday), so when I hear about one it gets my attention.  American Amusement seems to be doing them every other month now, and pointandclick just finished one last week and the guy who helped me preview that auction mentioned another coming up in June.  So it's a good time to be in north Texas!

I called the auctioneer and they were supposed to pass my number on to Mr. Litsey, he hasn't replied.  I would suggest contacting the auctioneer themselves for details, there will be a preview a week before the auction.  ARCADIAC!

Thanks! There are some good links here, greatly appreciated.

FYI: Just as a good business practice:
If the auction or seller is a little cash, its an auction or sale, as is.
If it is bigger than a little cash and involves check, credit, or other form of payment:
Get on the State Business Web site and check out the Standing.
A company that pays taxes, files the basic state paperwork will be "in good standing"
This is an easy and free thing to do.
Never surprised that some of the big ones haven't been in good standing for many years.

That usually isn't a problem until... the day it is a problem.
With the new long arm of the tax man, things can be "reached out for". It isn't the old way of doing business anymore.

A company that has been put into "not in good standing" is allowed to sell assets to pay off taxes.
