Extreme8:

I originally used plexi with an automotive type tint film and, while it looked fine it just didn't seem right for some reason. It was mounted at a slight angle and because of the size of the piece of plexi it tended to bow slightly in the center and would create odd reflections and distortions. A thicker sheet of plastic would probably have resolved this.
I also noticed slight scratching when I cleaned the surface.
None of this was a very big deal, but since I had invested so much in the cab why cut corners on the part that you would be looking at/through most often?

I purchased a piece of grey tinted tempered glass ($60) but after I got it mounted I discovered it wasn't dark enough. I added a sheet of the automotive tint to the back (also grey - 30% VLP was perfect) and now the setup is ideal.

I ordered the tempered...thanks for the help guys...
