another paint question
(1/1)
daywane:
I need some advice. I live in the country with a few friends around. thay have been watching me bring in a few arcades. thay are going nuts. one person next to me is a paintor by trade (homes) he wants to paint a cabinet with roller and oil based paint.
the other friend paints cars, he wants to use auto paint ,and air brush some art on a cabinet.
I am leaning towards the auto paint. I would think it would be a lot stonger. what do you think ???
darkmanx:
well either way i think airbrushing the side art would look really good!
PCC:
After I primed my cab, I had it sprayed by a painter with an oil based paint. Use a couple of thin coats versus one coat. If your cab is free of defects, I think that this is the way to go.
If you use a roller, you might want to thin it a bit, so it levels out more evenly. However, there will be spots that the roller won’t cover by itself.
If you use auto paint, make sure that you prime it with a product made for wood and metal (I’m not sure how well auto paint will perform on bare wood).
striff:
Go with the automotive paint.
I'm a sprypainter by trade, Prime up the cabinet, guide coat it and saind it back, personally i'd go for a pearl basecoat, then use a high solids 2pak clear. The paint comes out smooth as, no orange peel effect and left to cure for at least a week it becomes rockhard with hard glossy finish. Looks are excellent. I haven't painted my cab yet still in process of building one but have done wardrobes, beds etc and they turn out great.

thanks. I think I will go with auto paint and air brush
