Swap Magic is a disc (available in CD and DVD formats) which allows users to play backed-up, pirated, or foreign PlayStation 2 games on their PlayStation 2. The PlayStation 2 first boots the Swap Magic disc; the user must then "swap" the Swap Magic disc with their back-up, pirated or foreign disc, and hit the X button. There are many ways of enabling swapping. In original PlayStation 2 models, a "Slide Card" is available. For the newer, Slim PlayStation 2, there are many more options, namely: replacing the original top-loading lid with a new one that allows for easy swapping, or installation of a "switch" which allows the original lid to be opened without the system realizing it.
