| More Cowbell:
Will the Viper recommendations work for Windows 2000 as well? |
| gonzo90017:
Sorry. I'm only familiar with XP. |

Gonzo, Do you notice a considerable difference to the CPU using GameX. I'm all for giving more CPU to MAME but if the difference is just minimal than I don't think it would be worth it. thank you for your help |
| TOK:
I used the Black Viper page as a guide and while it didn't make any difference in the speed the games run (like making those slowpokes like Cruisin' USA playable), it cut a huge amount off the boot time. My machine boots in just under 30 seconds. It was nearly a minute and a half before disabling the unnecessary services. |

It doesn't actually make a huge difference if say you have 512mb of memory and or a very fast CPU 2.0+ But people shouldn't be scared to use it since it has a restore function so if you mess up you can just restore it. It makes a restore within the program automatically every time you use it. If you just UNCHECK SERVICES in the options everything should work fine. Here is a list of services I have disabled on my computer. It's the one i'm typing this from. Computer Browser (if you're not in a network) Disable Cryptographic Services Manual Distributed Link Tracking Client Manual Error Reporting Services Disable Fast User Switching Compatibility Disable Help and Support Manual IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service Disable Indexing Service Disable IPSEC Services Disable Logical Disk Manager Manual Net Logon Disable NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing Disable Protected Storage Disable QoS RSVP Disable Print Spooler Disable (if you're not in a network) Remote Desktop Help Session Manager Disable Remote Registry Disable Secondary Logon (if you only have one account) Disable Security Center Disable Server Disable Shell Hardware Detection Manual Smart Card (if you don't have a 6 in one readers) Disable SSDP Discovery Service Disable System Event Notification Disable TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Disable Telnet Disable Terminal Services Disable Uninterruptible Power Supply Disable Universal Plug and Play Device Host Disable WebClient Disable Windows Image Acquisition(WIA) (if you don't have a scanner) Disable Windows User Mode Driver Framework Disable Wireless Zero Configuration (if you don't use wireless internet) Disable WMI Performance Adapter Disable DNS CLIENT (if you have Broadband) DIsable |
