-VENDOR- FS New Spinner (or Trackball) Optic Boards
« on: January 20, 2006, 05:46:07 pm »
We are officially out of boards and have not had enough demand to justify another order of 100 boards (the minimum practical order).  :'( Thanks to everyone who ordered from us over the past 5 years!  It has been great getting to know a lot of you and learning about your projects.  I will still be checking the boards as often as I get a chance, so if you have any questions about the boards, optics, etc. feel free to drop me a line.

Wanted to put in a good word for these.  Ordered on Wednesday, had it on friday.  From the time I opened the box to the time I had my Pole Position wheel working again....5 minutes.  Well worth the money, board looks and feels like it will last for a long time.  Would never waste my time hacking a mouse to try to get anything with a flywheel working, especially at his low price.

Thanks man!

going to keep selling these?  Or just have a few around?

I might be interested in a few... but not for maybe 5 months...

I'm REALLY hoping for someone to start keeping these in stock...

does it work with Oscars hacked mice?  Opti-pac?

We have plenty for the foreseeable future.  We had them made for ourselves to use on our own spinners and trackballs, etc.  We only needed about 10-15 boards but the minimum practical order was 100  :o  so we have quite a few for now.

We test all the boards on an OPTI-PAC before we send them out, but they have worked on all the mouse hacks we have tried them on.  If anyone has good luck with them on any other encoders (i.e. the new one from Groovy Game Gear, or a real arcade trackball interface) please let us know.

Just drop us a line whenever you're ready to order.

I just wanted to bump this, and say that these guys were great to work with.  I ordered two boards for some homemade spinners I'm working on, and they were delivered fast.  They made sure I got exactly what I wanted, and the boards are excellent quality.

Ordered two of these optic boards and just received them today.  They are professionnally made and fit perfectly the old Atari trackball they were intented to.  Mike was great doing business with.

Highly recommended  :D

I still haven't got to test them yet, but I wanted to let everyone know that they fit perfectly into an Atari Trackball. For those of you that might not know, Atari and Happs trackball are pretty much the exact same thing. This fits perfectly unmodified into either of them. This is great for me, as I bought a used Atari TB on ebay cheap. These boards and some new bearings, and it is good as gold. Great work Fixumdude.

Do also have the "gears"?  I would like to build a spinner, but don't like the toothed gears in a mouse, not sensitive enough.

Rudi,

The only "gears" we have are the kind from a Happs trackball which are only 24 teeth, so from my understanding they would be less sensitive than your mouse gears.  You might try the trackball booster kit from Groovy Game Gear, it looks like it has a lot more teeth than the standard wheels we have.  Other than that, we are in the same situation about not being able to get spinner wheels since Oscar shut down.

Hope that helps a little bit.  If anyone else has a good source for spinner wheels, please let us know.  We are trying to build up our own control panels etc. and need some too.

Another note of praise for Mike's Optic boards.  I have a Tron spinner that I could not getting working with my Opti-pac.  Mike patiently replied to all my PM's, got me his board right away and it works great.

I just received this info from BYOAC user arkanoid.  He tried to post it here, but didn't have the minimum post count.

Quote
I'm happy to report that for both my
Arkanoid and Arkanoid 2 machines, the board was a plug-in replacement --
same header spacing, etc.  The only "difficulty" was the expecting
mounting -- just had to drill a couple holes and do a bit of adjusting.

So, works great.  The boards look great too -- very professional.

So, just for reference, this was replacing the original Taito optic
board, part number K9000060A.  Board ID is ME070006A/MEN00003A.

I thought this information might be helpful to others out there with arkanoid machines with bad optic boards.

Hey, just a quick post from another satisfied customer.  I picked up a couple of these to try in my Arkanoid machines.  It is a direct replacement for the optic boards I had, including the header pins spacing.  These are very professionally made boards at a very reasonable price.

For reference, this was replacing the original Taito optic board, part number K9000060A.  Board ID is ME070006A/MEN00003A.  That same board was used in both of my Arkanoid machines.

Just note that you'll have to drill the mounting holes... easy.

EDIT: yeah, that's me: Arkanoid.  Found my old ID from a few years still exists too.  Finally back to the hobby. :)

I just wanted to let everyone know that we are now down to about 6 of these boards left...and I thought we'd be stuck with a ton of them when we first ordered them, over a year and a half ago!  Time sure flies when you're having fun.

In that time we've seen people use them to fix: Atari trackballs, Happs trackballs, arkanoid spinners, tempest spinners, tron spinners, a centepede machine, a pole position wheel & some home made spinners as well.

Before we go through the time and expense of ordering another batch of 100 (minimum order) I wanted to get some feedback on the demand that's left out there.  I don't need pre orders or anything, just let me know if you were planning on ordering them sometime in the future, or if you think there is a continued demand for these boards.  Hopefully they haven't gone up too much, and can remain around $6-$8 each for the new batch.

If anyone reads this, let me know.

Thanks to everyone who ordered, and for all of your great feedback over the last year and a half!

Mike
