which pedals? (PHOTOS ADDED)
RobotronNut:
i'm assembling a set of driving controls and could use some advice selecting pedals. i'm looking for a pair of analog pedals, to be used together with a star wars yoke and a happ 2-position "speed shifter," interfaced through a dave's AKI board.
top priority games are: spy hunter, road blasters, and paperboy.
2nd priority games include: star wars, outrun, lemans 24, grand prix star.
for now, i'm not considering games that require 360 degree wheels.
i'd prefer to buy new pedals, but might possibly consider used. so far, i'm aware of the following choices, ranging fron 100 to $150).
- pair of happ modular pedals
- happ dual pedal
- CH products propedals USB
is there any reason to prefer any of these pedals, or can you recommend other choices besides these three?
thanks.
Minwah:
I've got a Happ dual pedal setup. You can wire them either in a single axis (eg throttle = Y+, brake = Y-), or double axis (eg throttle = Y, brake = X) setup, or use a switch so you can use either. Some games in MAME work better with one type than another.
Frankly I find setting up my pedals a PITA because of these different setups. I think I went for a fixed dual axis setup in the end, but for some games it doesn't work terribly well (presumably games which used a single axis setup). However I haven't done an awful lot of testing...
Do a search here, I think there are plenty of threads with more detailed info.

Road Blasters may not be very good with an analog yoke. The original game used an optical steering wheel. I've never been able to get the steering right with my Star Wars yoke and a Dual Strike hack despite many attempts to adjust the analog settings and load joystick schemes. However, maybe the AKI board's settings will be easier to adjust than the DS.

i think i basically undestand the single-axis / dual-axis issues. i'm mainly interested in comparing the available models w.r.t. performance, price, comfort, ease of interfacing, etc.
