might look here - I've never bought notebooks from them, but I have bought other stuff.  Be forewarned though - most of these have preinstalled OS's but don't come with disks.  However, if you have your own OS install disk...

you should run into no problems with windows 2000 on a laptop,

I have one sat here with win 2000 server on it which gets thrown in as a replacement whenever I lose one of my proper servers, seems to cope with high loads fine and has not been re-installed for 4 years (in my book thats pretty reliable for a windows based system)

my only gripe with windows 2000 is that it is slow to boot up.

Currently has XP Pro and runs great.  I really only used it as a toy...It has little use as I dont travel with it.  I used the battery about 6 times so it should still hold a nice charge....

PM me if you're interested.  I'd sell it for $300 or so.  I also have a laptop with a 486-25 (DX) if you want something a little (er...a lot) cheaper :-)
