E-Ring on Competitions
« on: April 18, 2002, 08:43:38 pm »
Just a question about the Competition Joystick:

When I assemble it according to the assembly diagram, I can't figure out where the E-Ring is supposed to clip.  The Joystick shaft doesn't extend down far enough to allow me to clip it where I thought it was supposed to go.

Anybody know how it's supposed to work?  Anybody else have a similar problem?

Also, As of right now it doesn't appear that the actuator is firmly connected at all.  It just snaps onto the bottom, but is not secured with anything.

Thanks for any help!   :D

The Competition has a white bushing that goes on the shaft before you insert the joystick handle through the base.  This bushing sets the joystick height correctly so that the e-clip matches up with the lower groove on the shaft, so you may want to double-check that this bushing is installed.

Another thing to check is that the actuator sleeve, a white peice that goes on the bottom of the shaft, is installed.  The actuator slips over this sleeve and then the e-clip holds it all together.  Hopefully that makes sense.  :)

Thanks for the reply...  I had all of the parts put together correctly, but the notch on the shaft was not lining up with the bottom of the actuator so I could attach the e-clip.  None of the shaft was extending from underneath the bottom of the actuator, so I couldn't see the notch.

(That's a mouthful) :P

But, I think I figured it out:  All I had to do was push down on the actuator against the spring until I could see the notch... and then attach the clip.

I think it's probably how it's supposed to be.  I hope.

That is correct, you have to compress the spring slightly to attach the e-clip.

I thought you meant that with the e-clip installed, it was a sloppy fit.  I should have read your post more closely.   :P
