I don't buy it. They must have been doing this mysterious backup for at least the last month. I emailed back and told them that I think this excuse is BS.

James has no idea what is going on because all James does is sit there and route support tickets.

Considering that the routers in this building were purchased by and are maintained by the public school system, I'd say that's quite likely.

It would affect anything that may go through that router... remember, any site you hit goes through a random number of intermediate sites on the internet. If any of them goes down you can get intermittent outages to certain places.
