Websense seems to filter out websites for no reason whatsoever. You'd think they'd just block the entire internet and be done with it.

A company with a restrictive firewall sure isn't going to let you SSH anywhere.

Ok, another alternative is to use Microsoft Remote Desktop RDP over another port (like above 5000 for example). Only way they can snag you there is if they REALLY have the firewall tightened down to only allow outgoing traffic like http, mail, dns, and <insert critical protocol here>.

Doesn't RDC require one specific port?  I don't remember being able to change it on the server side.

Either that, or just do a port forwarding / translation on your router. Incoming port 5599 translates to desktop port 3389.

What really kicks over my pissbucket is that my website has been blocked in the first place. I mean seriously, it's blocked because it's a personal website? So we're assuming that every website on the internet that isn't directly assiciated with a corporate entity  or NPO is unsafe?

I emailed websense, requesting the reason why I'm blocked. I expect to hear back from them not at all.

Oh and Drew, I am "blocked" from my own site. I'm also blocked from this site and several others that I frequent. I don't let being blocked stop me from visiting them.

Eh, you're partially right. Websense "categorized" your site as a personal site. Your company has turned on the "block sites with category: personal". All you can do is:
1) Ask Websense to categorize you differently (humor, games, etc) but to something your company doesn't block.
2) Ask your company to not block personal sites.

Good luck either way.

Didn't they give you an SLA (service level agreement)? AKA - your site will be up X% of the time. Ask them if they have an SLA and then ask if they have proof of uptime.

See if they have a Terms and Conditions or User Agreement page or something. Call em and ask if they have an SLA. You might not, but wouldn't hurt to ask. Might mean some $$ back.

It's actually cheap enough that I doubt I'll bother with trying to get a refund. I am actively trying to get moved to another server. When I check their chart that shows which servers are down, mine is often the only one on the list. At the moment there are a couple of others (out of about 30) on it as well.

It's back again, but in my experience when it happens once, it will happen a few more times before it shakes itself out. I have requested that my site be moved to another server. This is getting stupid.
