Defender 3 -- some people believe anything

I can only get about 7000... but I'm a rank amateur.

Some of the chips on my board are looking a little rough so it's probably time to get it dumped or it might be lost forever. Nobody on the MAME team has stepped up to dump the board after I've sent it around to a few people, so I'm going to dump it myself. I bought a rom dumper online yesterday so I'll see what I can do to get it emulated.

Good Luck dumping (that doesnt sound to good.. does it!). You never know... you might inspire someone to design a 'Defender III' cab....... mmmmm... now that sounds like a good idea ;)

When I read about tricks like purposely shooting all your humanoids except one, which you then allow to be lifted so you can kill his captor and then carry him around with you for level after level, I am amazed at the skill it would take to pull off such a trick. I can fairly reliably get to the humanoid replacement level (level 5 i guess it is, or is it 6? not sure), but I still have a lot to learn and every once in a while I get pummeled and lose all my lives on level 2 :)
So... what do MOST people get in Defender? My high score is in the 60Ks, 65K or something like that. Am I still a Defender newbie? Or can I kick the average Defender players ass? I have no idea. No frame of reference. I do not know anyone personally who has the motivation to truly excel at the game. So I am kinda alone in "Defenderland."

I have migrated to Stargate and am in the 80-90k range. That game taunts me it does. I play it more than anything else on my Omega Mame.
erictrumpet:
I do better at Stargate than Defender points-wise, but that's because I always play the two-credit game with double the lives -- lame I know, but hey it's a freakin' hard game.
I built a desktop controller with button placement specific for Defender and baby, that's the only way to play the game. I am trying to figure out how to work in Defender-specific controls on my cab too. Without exactly the correct buttons, Defender and Stargate are even harder, IMO. Gotta have the controls correct...
