Top 10 favorite Games of 2005
« on: December 05, 2005, 11:50:29 am »
Ok, I may be getting myself in a little bit deeper than I realize by trying to do this but here it goes. I want to do a BYOAC survey of the top 10 arcade games you play. This is for arcades only (MAME, Daphne), no consoles. KLOV has a top 10 but I am not sure how they achieve the #. MAME DK had one based on downloads. Gosh I miss MAME DK. BYOAC is a group of people who are still playing and finding games. I want a fresh pulse of what is hot.

So, what I want from you is your top 10 favorite games. You may only enter once so please think it through. If you ennter more than once it will be ignored. I also want one more thing. I want your #1 favorite obscure game. The game you found through MAME you never knew about when you were young and in the arcades. Also on the obscure games please give me a KLOV link.

Please make your list from 1 to 10 with 1 being your most favorite and down. Please do a return after each number.

Example:
1.   Defender (highest ranking)
2.   Galaga
3.   Donkey Kong

there was quite a large thread about this once before, and someone started using Excel to assign weights and everything... perhaps you can just start that up again.  It was already pretty far along.

I am not trying to take away from or take over anyone's previous efforts. I had not seen one, so I decided to run a year end survey. Plus, I am interested in the obscure nuggets people have found.

My whole reason for starting my cabinet was golden tee.  The funny thing is, it wasn't even available untill months after I started.  So with that being said:

1.GoldenTee 2K
2.The Other Golden Tees
3.Tetris Grand Master (Zinc)
4.Battle Flip Shot
5.World Class Bowling
6.Galaga
7.Strider (Zinc)
8.Marvel vs. Capcom

10.Dragons Lair

I don't have a top 10 handy, but I know the two best 'unknown' games I've found through emulation would be WizWars and Juno First.

I was hoping that it would be a list of games that we as BYOAC builders were playing on the systems that we built. Kinda of a 2005 home grown list.

Well, you should at least get an honorary mention as it was your Juno First project that turned me onto that game and it's a game I do play in MAME.

Cheers.

I hope you don't leave it on the default factory settings (Easy). It's way too easy on that skill setting (might be partly why the game never did well). If you find yourself getting through wave after wave without ever using the hyperspace warp, that's a sign its too easy.

RayB what Juno First diff setting do you use? I just moved mine up to Medium based on this thread and yes, the game plays waaaaay better. But still kinda easy! Maybe because I've had so much practice on Easy setting. :)

Eric.

Not sure. I just got my board in and haven't played beyond a few rounds. As with most games, the first level should be easy to beat, then from there be challenging. Basically, by the time you are almost finished a wave, those crazy purple ships should be appearing. If you NEVER see the purple ships (they zig zag across the screen real fast), then it's set too easy.

I have a technique down that makes it easier than it should be though. Keep going backwards a little so ships end up off the screen and in that top area. Then when the planet appears, shoot it, get the astronaut and then move forward blasting as many as you can. You get uber-bonus points.

Maybe that's why I like it so much ....

Sorry for the threadjack ... returning you to your regularly scheduled Top 10 list ...
