X-Arcade Trackball Review
« on: November 12, 2005, 01:52:51 am »
My X-Arcade trackball arrived today, and I wanted to post my thoughts for anyone who might consider it (either as their pre-packaged trackball control panel or just for the trackball itself).

The thing is well made and very solid.

Thanks for the review. One thing I'm wondering is how they managed to mount the trackball to wood without using a mounting plate. Did they just do a lot of routing on the underside of the wood, or is there another explanation?

So you have had it a while now, any new thoughts? I was reading other posts about the Happ trackballs failing after a bit. What's the word on the X Arcade?
I too am wonering about how to mount it. I have a 3/4" wooden CP do you have some pics you could post?
Thanks

I haven't really been using it that much, so I don't think I can speak to its' durability.  I never opened the thing up, there are regular pics on X-Arcade site.

Bought one today. Like it alot, but I'm wondering why the pinball buttons are there?

They only map to mouse 1 or 2, and the two main pinball programs, Visual Pinball and Future Pinball, won't let you use the mouse as flippers! Arrrgh!!

I'm considering getting one of these trackballs for my control panel, but they don't have a template available. Anyone have this info, or the dimensions for it?

Ask and ye shall receive!

It's 5 3/4" across at the center in both X and Y dimensions.  About 6 1/4" diagonally at the rounded corners, about 7 3/4" diagonally at the sharper corners.

Edit:
Oh, and 2 1/2" from top to bottom of case.  Note there's no top/cover plate included, so you either have to get one somewhere else or route out the inside of your CP for it (that's what X-Arcade does on their full boards).

You can actually, hope to add exactly how at some point.
