What are your must have dreamcast games?
« on: January 21, 2003, 05:37:21 pm »
I have been looking at the video game stores for used dreamcast games and ebay.   What are your dreamcast "must have" games? Or your "Very much worth playing?"

Must Have:
Soul Calibur
Wetrix+
(modify) Project Justice  I had been searching and searching for Rival Schools ever since 1999.  Never could find it.  I finally ran across Zinc, which is when I found it had a sequel.  This is in my list for sure! (/modify)

Very Much Worth playing
House of the Dead 2
Crazy Taxi 2

I am trying to get together a list for myself so I know what to keep an eye out for.

Already on my list
Marvel vs Capcom 2
Sega bass fishing 1
Sega bass fishing 2
Reel big fish
Reel fish wild
Sega Marine fishing
Psychic Force 2012  (Im looking for comments on this)
Sambe de amigo      (maraca games)
Tokyo extreme racer 2

Not sure, but on my list
Last Blade 2
Virtual on

As a side note:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3001814444&category=27236 Soul Calibur for .99 cents at time of post.  I am not affiliated w/ seller.

I herd wetrix was pretty bad (game mechanic wise), I'll have to give it a shot if you liked it that much.

Play test Psychic Force 2012 (I did at gamestop and did not like it at all).  Got bad ratings on gamespot and IGN.  Always check these sites for ratings/reviews before buying.

Virtual-On, was very dissapointing, much to hard to control without the real arcade sticks...looks like a rushed DC port also.

Thanks for the input

Wetrix was a fun puzzle game.  I'll admit the controls are funky, but its still a cool game.  A game deserves a certain amount of effort I think.  But if you don't like puzzle games, go ahead and pass it by.

I enjoyed it though.
Do you think Virtua On would be "saved" by real arcade controls?  I do plan on putting the DC in a cab when the moon and planets align properly.

Here is my "must have" top 10 Dreamcast titles.

Soul Calibur
Ikaruga (Import)
Samba De Amigo (with 2 sets of original Sega Controllers)
Samba De Amigo 2000 (Import)
Virtua Tennis
Virtua Tennis 2K2
Project Justice
Guilty Gear X (Import)
Confidential Mission
HOTD2

I specifically didn't list MvC2 or CvSNK2 because they are built on cheezy infinate combos (not very fun in my opinion).  But they are great/perfect ports nonetheless.

There are plenty more great DC games I own and highly recommend, but I'm not at home right now to list them (maybe later this week).  I'm partial to arcade ports, and games which play best in an arcade cabinet.

Wow! Thats a bold statement.  Even more bold than mine about Wetrix ;)

Your right, 2 guns is Dreamcast heaven

What are the gun games on the dc?

Also, good games depends on what you like to play.  I love sport games.  Sega Sports makes GREAT games.
I also like shenmue, mdk2, worm world party, revolt, and nba hoopz.

Dave_K.  I must totally agree with ya on Virtua tennis. Those games are a total blast, im not even a fan of tennis but the game looks and plays so great its hard not to pass up. Nfl2k2 is also a must play IMHO. Jet Set Radio is a great goof off game. There are tons of great games for Dc, I'd actually have to go through my games to post all the recommended ones LOL.  Dreamcast is truly an arcade lovers console. I'm still upset it met its demise way before its time. Game On!

Agreements all around from this little Dreamcast addicted Gopher - BUUUUTTTTT - you forgot these gems!!!

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Powerstone 2

There is also Bangai-O, which is a pearler of a game - as frantic as all hell. Unfortunately, I have only played it once or twice and never gotten my hands on a copy. PAL versions are fairly scarce!

Bangai-O is a sweet game.  I even rewired my control panel so I could use two joysticks for one player (one for movement, and the other for fire).  That seemed like the way it was ment to be played (like Robotron).  Things get frantic when you have to hit the smart bomb button just as everything is about to hit you (and with the dual joystick setup, it was rather hard to do).

Since I couldn't keep my control panel wired like that forever, I eventually sold the game.  Its really not the same using buttons to fire in 8 directions  :(

Woah - hold up there a second Snaaake - that's a low blow to my good friend JoJo. (sorry - had to do it.)

I just think that it is one of the trippiest games ever. And, well, I like trippy. The graphics are good, the moves are *outrageous* and it is generally very frenetic fun! It is original, whacky, colourful and great fun at drunked parties. Sure, this might not be the ultimate test for a game, but it has it's place!

Either way - long live Ccapcom!
