Sorry, I just cant agree :P  :)    They are both ugly as hell, look and play worse than the cheapie store bought ones.

As for moving the legos arround.. it seems at least one of them has a smooth playfeild.  If that is so, then they must have had to use non legos  for that?  And glued legos to it.

But even if not.. who cares if its hooked to vpinball... if it stinks, it will still stink with vpinball connection.  No coils, no amazing lightshow, only a few rollover switches, no flahsers, no electronic flippers? (leads to momentum cheating),
no illuminated inserts..  and no real theme or artwork.  And nothing you build with it will ever resemble any real machine in vpinball... not even close.

Making a real good pinball machine is an artform for sure.  It will take many fixes and tweaks.. but hell, thats the fun challenge : )

When you do make a tester board, you could in fact make a setup with one of those holed boards used for hanging tools.   Place parts on it,  then make a smooth thin overlay to cover the holes so the ball moves without problem.

Or, just use a piece of wood, screw the parts in from the bottom.   If they need to move, unscrew them, move, and redrill and screw in a new place.  You could fill in the dril hole if needed... but I think that youd want to redrill the entire feild once you know the perfect locations on a fresh board.

Heck, I think someone could make a better cardboard pin than these projects posted :)   heh

I once made a near lifesize skeeball machine out of cardboard when i was a kid.  Used tennis balls, and even had a ball return : )   No score board of course  : )  heh   Played awesome actually.

that difficult, and the design could be much better and much more complex.

I think you are missing the point on why this is cool.  What has been doneso far on the lego pinball is very complex.  Have you ever played with legos?

Everything you said could be done with legos, just take an awful amount of time.  That's what makes this cool, it shows what is possible with legos.

Of coarse the isn't the "real thing", but oyu have to be impressed with it.

It's like saying the mastermind project (go up a level on the site) sucks because it isn't the real board game.  Well, that's not the point, it's meant to show what legos can do.  That's cool.

On the subject of mindstorms, I think a battlebots with mindstorms would be pretty interesting...

I've got one person wanting to compete with a 30 lb, autonomous 'bot with a 8 lb spinning blade driven by a 1.5 HP electric motor.  He is looking to use a laptop with custom software, image recognition software, a wifi link to the bot, and arena mounted cameras.

I predict lots of bots painted to look like the arena floor.

We're still working out the safety rules.  I ain't going in there to stop it when it goes wacko.

Back during hte battlebot craze a friend and I thought of this.  We'd securely put a junk pda in hte bot that had sometype of wifi.  There would be sensors and stuff on the bot that determine when to use a weapon (with manual override, or total shutdown if wireless link is lost).  That way the controller would jus thave to maneuver the bot, it attacks on it's own.

"Back during hte battlebot craze"

You'd be surprised.  The 'fad' is still going pretty strong.  Theres gotta be over 1k competitors in this country alone.  The competition I run in Harrisburg has over 100 robots enter each year, including ones from canada and further.  That translates into (2) 10 hour days of fights.

TV found better things to put on, like rock-paper-scissor tournaments, and jumprope competitions.  If you think I'm joking, check out ESPN-2 some day. :)

"maneuver the bot, it attacks on it's own."

This one has been done pretty well.  Proximity sensors on the front recognize when theres a 'victim' in attack range.  Works good as long as you can keep the bot pointed away from the wall.  :-\
