Is it better to pay to join a usenet group to download the roms? What's the freakin' difference? All of us started in this hobby with little or no knowledge of how to get roms. I remember downloading roms off of www.mame.dk one at a time before they shut it down. Some people act like only they are allowed to have the roms because they know where to get them. Get off your high horses. Not everyone knows about burners or Mame. Think about the newbies. And don't give me the crap about the copyright holders getting pissed and shutting everything down because we have no right to own the rom to Mr. Do's Castle or whatever unless we own the original PCB. Guess what, most of the old companies are long gone and the ones that aren't don't make a dime if you buy an old PCB off of Ebay or where ever in order to be "legal". Plus, there are so many people out there with roms now that they will NEVER disappear anyway. It's like the whole downloading a bootleg movie issue. The people who do it would never go see the movie in the first place. Therefore they are not missing a sale of any kind. You think anyone in their right mind would actually line up like a sheep to see a piece of crap like Flightplan!? Errr......It made over $100 million....Alot of sheep in this world I guess. There is my rant. Enjoy it. --- End quote --- I think kmc should have used stars to highlight the important parts of this posting. |

Actually you should chill because you'll live longer. There has been "illegal mainstream distribution for money" since just about day one of Mame. The "giants" will crack down on the Ebay and public sellers just like they always have. I'm sure Nintendo has plenty of intelligent people that are aware of the burners giving away their games for the price of postage. How is that any different than peer to peer file trading? Technically, it's actually worse. You are making a hard copy and using the US mail system. The record industry is doing their best to crush the p2p's. The individuals sharing files on there and through bit torrent aren't "distributing for money" and they are still subject to prosecution. Think you can get away with burning music CD's for people for the price of postage? Whether you get them on Ebay because you don't know any better or if you get them from a "no-charge" burner, it's still illegal. So chill :) KMC? I like that. |

Many people believe there is a HUGE difference in helping friends and those who try and make a profit on others hard work. Just because you find something cool and think it COULD be sold... doesn't mean you should be the one selling it. If he was cool, he would do it for free to anyone who sends blank CDr's or DVDr's and self addressed envelope. That is what many do in the burners project. And last... (add some controversy ;D )... I believe the same thing about people who sell premade arcade machines and think they NEED to use mame's name even though they have asked nicely, then not so nicely for them to stop. Heck, they even made it pretty easy for you to use their name. But people who say "I put DAYS of labor into those machines" well, for every hour in a cab we put, others have put thousands into mame to make it all possible.... Be happy that you have it, call your cabs Emulator cabs (or whatever) and be happy... |

Just becuase theres so many people with roms doesnt justify for other people to start getting them too. You cant justify breaking the law because 'you think alot of people do it too'. |

Most people don't justify it but then again they keep quiet and slowly back away (Missioncontrol is sensible in that respect) ;) |
