Zuh? Another game console on the horizon??
« on: January 21, 2003, 08:19:05 am »
Read that a new game console called 'THE PHANTOM" (wasn't that a bad billy zane movie?) is coming out.  I quote from the press release: http://www.gamespydaily.com/news/pressrelease.asp?id=1860 "The on-demand delivery system will appeal to hard-core gamers as well as casual users".
Somehow I don't see how the hard-core gamers of the world will want to pay-per-play in their living room.

Their website http://www.infiniumlabs.com/ says THE PHANTOM will be able to play 'potentially thousands' of games upon release, and that you can play online with PC users.  Hmmm....sounds fishy to me   :P  Plus how many developers would even sign on for ANOTHER console? They say it's more powerful than xbox, so it's probably just a sooped up PC-in-a-box.

Looks like its still deep in the hype-only phase of marketing.  No actual box exists, no specs.  Its just going to be a cheap PC, and you rent PC games online.  How unoriginal.  Anyone could release a cheap PC better than the xbox specs if they wait long enough.  :P

Thanks for the heads up though.
