Sanding Semi Glossy Paint?
<< < (2/3) > >>
AC.:
Yes, sand each coat except the last coat.  Use fine grit paper 250+.  It will look pretty rough after each sanding, but the final coat will look good and really suprise you.  Here is a pic of mine during sanding, and then after the last coat. - I also used a coat of primer and a semi-gloss for the final coat.

nice paint job what type of roller did you use? brand? also is it recommended i do 2 coats primer and 2 coats of semi gloss
AC.:
Thanks.  I just used a cheap-o roller (a new one).  I would not do two coats of primer, I think two coats of primer are unnecessary.  However, your choice of roller and whether or not you do one or two coats of primer probably wont make much of a difference.   Post some in-progress pics and some final ones when you have it done.  Good Luck!

I'm in the process of painting my cabinet and first used a cheapo roller.  I had trouble with bits of the roller fuzz getting in the paint (it must have been a REAL cheap roller!).  I had much better luck with a foam roller.  The only problem with it is that it's only 4" wide and it would be better if it was a bit wider.
J-Rod:
I had some of those issues when doing the lacquer coats. The J-Rcade took several coats on the CP, and I had to do alot of sanding to get it as smooth as I wanted. I forget what grit I was using at the later stages, 320 sounds about right. For the final shine, I used polishing compound and a big buffing wheel. It's gotten a few dings, but that's to be expected. I had even thought about trying to pour a hard resin cast over it, making it impervious, but that was too risky, I didn't see a way to pour something that big, and not end up with bubbles. So if it gets really bad, I can always sand down and recoat. =]
