49 way problems
u_rebelscum:
Maybe one (or both) of the middle pins is not making a good contact. I can't remember OTTOMH how Randy calls the pins in his docs, but for each axis there's the 'D' (direction) pin, then value pins 'A', 'B', & 'C' (sometimes labeled 1, 2, & 3). I'm talking about one of the 'B' pins not making contact.
Not sure why both axes were effected, but I couldn't go in either of the cardinal directions when my 49-way had 9 of the ten pins connnected, with only one of the axes' B pins not. However the pattern was a little different on what won't work: (IIRC OTTOMH)
33xxx33
x22x22x
xx1x1xx
xxx0xxx
xx1x1xx
x22x22x
33xxx33
'x's not working. My Y axis middle pin was not making contact. Notice the differences between the Y axis & X axis not working.
I know it's not the same pattern, but try reconnecting the middle pins (one at a time so not to disconnect one at the same time you connect the other ;)).

Make sure that the stick isn't geting kicked into WILLIAMS mode! When you first plug it in or apply power, make sure that the stick is centered. Any other state will be autodetected as Williams mode and, if I'm not mistaken, do exactly what you describe.
If it is centered there are few possibilities:
Shorted wire
Problem with the stick itself.
Problem with the GP-Wiz49
Most problems are of the first and distant second variety as the GP-Wiz49 is tested 100% before shipping.
