Joystick lubrication?
TurboC--:
(Come on now, don't make fun of the topic ;D)
I have an original Pac-man 4-way joystick which rubs in the diamond-restricted corners. It kind of throws off play. Not sure if I cleaned off grease that needed to be there, but now I need to add some proper slipperyness to fix it. What's good for ths purpose? I heard WD40 leaves behind gummy residue (and it smells!) Any suggestions?
brophog:
WD40 is not a lubricant and should never be confused for one. As to your specific problem, I'm sure someone will respond accordingly.
Bones:
Try a food grade silicone lubricant in an aerosol pack. Good brands like Dow Corning are non staining and completely clear in colour. Just make sure you wipe away any excess lubricant from your joystick, you don't want your hand slipping off when you are really going for it and are about to beat that high score.

I use silicone spray almost exclusively on stuff like this.
Unlike most lubricants, it won't eat rubber.
It works especially well on plastic-to-plastic contact.
For heavier items, like steering wheels, I use general purpose lithium grease.
That has a little better staying power; but will gum up things like joysticks, and cause them not to return to center properly.
As far as the smell goes, silicone spray is probably the worst for "stinking up the house"--at least according to my wife.
